FW: tenth anniversary of habitat blog

Our volunteers for ten years of service for the tenth anniversary have now included Roosevelt High, Iona Prep, Iona College, IBM Homesite insurance, Normandy real estate, Navy recruits, software guidance, woodland temple, Dobbs Ferry Lutheran and many more..what a blessing.

Chris Smith called, I want to get my soccer team out…he brings them out this Wed thirty strong, helping us..moving ahead..

What a great blessing this is! Thanks Chris!

Yesterday Sunday I worked with Ivan, Junior, Ramseys, Christopher, local residents and family members of Stewart Place and Ashburton, working on our community garden again..helping out, making it look beautiful again. What a great day..we also worked with Zaih who helped us..all afternoon. Cucumbers, tomatoes, eggplant peppers were all given to community neighbors.  What a blessing!

Why community gardens..there is no fresh food in our neighborhoods. Over the yeasr I have developed a “third eye” if you will, looking at the whole neighborhood…our homes get built but there may no supermarkets..only bodegas.  We want our families healthy  and believe every student should grow food in the hood..while living in decent homes.  To this end we grow!

Would you sponsor one of our gardens? Would you sponsor a window today, would you help us? God bless you all, God bless my friends in the hood..my brothers..my sister Zaiah, all who help make this a better place!

Each day is gift..last nite I walked down to the WTC again..the same day we had an earthquake here in NY…..a post  from California writes..a small tremor..get over it…

I remember walking down to Canal St..seeing dust on absolutely everything..dust of buildings…of bodies..of rubble or paper…as i walked to Canal last nite, I saw the lights of Silverstein properties..amazingly    moving up..the WTC builders..the spirit of positive blessed energy of all those construction workers..the world looks watches..

We have not been bombed here, we have not been blown up..I really thought by now terrorists would have hit here by now..honestly..thank God for the police, the secutiry, the Veterans..the soldiers, the country..and other countries ..we take so much for granted….so much! Pray today folks, we all need it, no matter what faith..then act with us in rebuilding our WTCenters…our community centers, our gardens, our homes, our solar factory, our jobs, our community building…if we can rebuild WTC, we can rebuild this country..with everyone, no matter what faith or faith a simple decent home! God bless you all..America and every country in the world!

The Daily News announces two penthouses going for 98.5 million dollars each, less than those on 15 Central Park West > I could house more than 2000 NY families with that money changing their life forever..what price greed at this point.

At a time we look at our communities, our world..people without jobs, 911..we ask those who might be in amazing brackets of wealth to  share, sponsor a home for a family…at least one home…there seems to be rhyme or reason to this all..

With that in mind, we pray today this Thursday..this Holy Thursday..for our families, for our neighborhoods, for safety and security, for holiness, and health, for more homes…

This we ask you to join us in.

Today we welcome teenagers from the neighborhood…from Queens as well, changing ..in this the Summer of Change…stay tuned..our work is vitally changing neighborhoods!

FW: blog

Recently I have been asked to write for a couple of newspapers, an honor, to blog…I still don’t know what a blog is..except a stream of consciousness for me, of lifes challenges, blessings and hopes..guided much thru the eyes of one who loves Habitat, its deceased founder, and wife Linda…and the love of Jesus motivating me to move ahead where none go…

Henry and I talk tonite..Henry we have to take it back..where are the churches the faith community…we did the Nite Out against violence, I was mc, but then where are people..

Anyone shot should be a shot to the heart of any spiritual person in the county..not a simple disdain of a newstory but a call for prayer and action…Henry and I both have worked on Lawrence and Purse Place where two youth were killed over the last month…killed is just a word to many of us…what would it mean if it was your own son, our family member or neighbor..your student, or relative..we get hardened…if today we hear His voice, harden not our hearts..may the Love  of the one God that unites us call us to action in love together….

For the next month you will see much of my writings reflected from a 911 survivor, responder, believer in change, an American, a world citizen..a nyc lover, a Habitat director…

On 911 the world was changed forever this 911 come  out and change the world….our tenth anniversary..tonite I walked six miles from 42nd to world trade center and back…I email my good friend, Marty Berger..Marty I am here at the WTC at ground zero, praying for your work.. you see Marty is a leader at Silverstein properties, along with his workers, his co workers, like Dave Worsley and the construction workers. Needless to say Mr Larry Silverstein, a great man, supports Martys efforts..and deserves prayer..

Marty and his sons build homes with us in great Tzedekah.. charity of the love of God to help others.

I walk the route, remembering the debris, the soot, the attempts for me to get closer and closer to GZ, the concerns, the Habitat volunteers filling every corner of the armory building with relief supplies..and much more…Holly Silva and her family, crying over their lost husband, David, and so many….for ten days..we will build and rebuild..

TEN DAYS OF SERVICE..FOR THE TENTH ANNIVERSARY..TEN DAYS OF WALKING OF BLOGGING OF PRAYING OF ASKING FOR YOUR SUPPORT, PRAYERS, HANDS, TO RECREATE NOT ONLY GROUND ZERO, BUT THE GROUND ZEROS IN OUR COMMUNITIES HERE…THE JOURNEY BEGINS…..May God bless you this day.

More and more sign up for our 911 buildathon, we move ahead, we build, we serve we succeed, time for us to move ahead to succeed to take it back.  We dedicate our work to Veterans returning and to those who lost their lives saving our freedom.  Freedom, a relative term.if we cant get a job are we free, if our education system doesn’t work are we free, we can t speak up due to party politics and control are we free….there are many questions that come out that challenge us to think of how we move ahead with a better community, a better county a better country…we need to move ahead!

The economic earthquakes shatter financial banks..the real earthquakes shatter the homes of so many like those in Haiti….also like those of foreclosed homeowners here in the US..

What a world…I often speak about the economics of the bonuses given and the earthquake shook in Haiti at the same time…it seems that Greed has overtaken Need, that loan sharking in the forms of banks, have overtaken, smart prudent savings, that credit became our operative word for existence and purchases, and that we look now at a country in shambles..so many countries in shambles..what one comes to mind first for you…

Everyday I have the A team members come into our office, helping us..volunteering with us,  doing community gardens…helping to build homes, make playgrounds…help in the Restore..it is their future we work the hardest for now…can we take it back?  YES of course we can..but we have think different, act different and work hard! Its time..to pray and act and help Habitat Now….
