People cant realize that taking zombie homes and rehabbing them is a breath of fresh air, for sure.
With that in mind, we are excited to create an initiative across this county to help make it
No more zombies and no more ugly..NMU…one of our first homes we helped rehab was a home in Greenburgh, a former Crack house, I remember I walked in and there crack viles all over the floors, and needless. The police had called me and said..we were watching this old house,..and saw habitat rehabs…can you come and see..
We went over and saw what was going on..3 police cars were waiting and officer Rudy was there, waiting for me, and walked thru the house, and realized this could be a home..from there a mom with her kids who have now graduated college, own their home! A phoenix rising out of the ashes..amazing!
We are working on former crack houses for Veterans homes in Yonkers. We worked where a little crack house was in White Plains and now 6 homes stand..we have taken other brick rehabs that another not for profit dropped and now three families are in there..
Zombie homes take longer to rehab, you never know their needs..however the greenest house you have is the one you save…
If you know of a zombie home that we can make NMU, beautiful, and make it a home again, email me jim@habitatwc.org
It stabilizes the neighborhood, puts the land back ono taxes, and helps us to transform whole neighobrhoods as we look at the whole not just the home. (making community gardens, starting activity, painting and fixing parks, etc..)
With that in mind we move ahead! God bless you….
