a call into the line for radio talk, with Sam Spade, head of the NAACP..i iwish him well and he I for our co work together in helping to keep the dream alive..hoping home ownership becomes a reality... i call as i go to pick up my son at the high school from a late nite class..my hero...he is of mixed origin, handsome, strong and soon to be in college, but as sam and i point out, can our kids live here in new rochelle or westchester in the future, can his grandparents, can our grandchildren...or are we edging and hedging out our kids to invite others to rent out luxury apartments at the price of those hwo live here...what foolish planning we both agree.. and sam says maybe not in my lifetime, but we will keep fighting....why not in our lifetime...can you help keep the dreams alive..we are passionate, but we need more passion, we are strong but we need more strength, yours, we are prayerful but we need your prayers, we are hopeful and helpful but we need your time, your support to keep the dream alive...more than having the dream, let us make the dream in our lifetime become a reality...may God bless you and may all your dreams come true in your lifetime...pray and help those who hope their dreams of home ownership come alive...jjk

this weekend i was honored to speak to st augustines church this past weekend..to the second graders, there in larchmont....the youth will lead in the future...with their parents there they listened attentively about how people need homes and how the gospel challenges us all to be able to have homes here and everywhere in the world...many youth dont know there is a need for homes in Westchester that people cant even dream of having a home...that people dont go to bed in big homes....as a credit to St. Augustines they sponsor our Walk for Homes every year...they help deliver baskets...they help to keep the awareness going in their congregations...God bless you St. Augustines..may someday you sponsor a whole home..what is your congregation doing..be it Christian, Jewish or Muslim..we need you this year! and everyyear to help.

Thank you to our construction workers...today we had a meeting with our construction staff over how our year will go..how it will be and how we can improve our construction...it will be all good..it will be a great year...i was on the phone with the village manager of mamoroneck and we are excited to be working that town again..today we are working on pouring concrete foundations as well....today in
so it is a great day for us..while another company, BBR financial calls and says, can we get involved, can we build? It will be a great year for us for our 20th anniversary!

with us today Friday I just had one of our New Yorleans families stop in Ericka McConduit, who is hoping to return someday to her home that was left due to Hurricane Katrina...her daughter Phoenix now two years old, was a Katrina baby, beautiful and healthy...but like so many she ended up in New York, and lives in White PLains hoping one day to return to the Big Easy....all of this means that life is still challenging for so many who were displaced.....say a prayer today for all the katrina families and know that the Mardi Gras is for them, the money we raise helps Phoenix and Sharon and Devante....and the many who desire to return to homes that were beautiful and are now changed forever, with your help we can help them return...jjk

everyday is gift...no question in life..if we were to look at the ways in which God has worked in our life today, we would realize, what gifts we have..the people who cross our lives, the friends, even the troublemakers who come in front of us...what do we do ..how do we respond, how do we appreciaate...
For me for those who help me with the mission of Habitat, it is a true gift..tonite it is one of the coldest nites of the winter.. no question...a roof, warmth,food, friends, ah but who tonite cannot dream, who is traveling long distances because no affordable homes..what children, have no home to sleep in, like the mom and child who came in today, or the disabled person elderly, who called for Brush with Kindness..or the immigrant family who is in small apartment, having to have left their home, due to no work and the father dieing, all true stories...the song says, Oh Baby it is cold outside...no question, it is warm inside..can we help make it warm for someone who has no home, can we build more dream homes!!!! This is the year of Jubilee to do it..with gratitude. j

This year proves to be our best one yet! We will be building all over the county, in ways never seen before...from New Rochelle to Mamoroneck, from Bedford to Yonkers, we are embarking on a great new endeavor to make this a year that it is part of the conscience of Westchester that we CAN get EVERYONE A SIMPLE DECENT HOME...and begin on that track...
As I write this from our New Center at 524 Main Street, I am struck by the ability for us to start the New Year with this hope in Habitat, from here to all parts of the world....if our societies started with the premise that all should live decently and not pay fifty per cent or more for their rent or mortgage...we would be able to alleviate so many of the worlds problems.....
But our mission is focused on Westchester, for we have so much wealth, so much brain power, so much in terms of resources and the availability of building includes going up in the air with condos and coops, then we are able to think differently, green and with HOPE that so many more homes will be built for families in need.....this must include helping Seniors, helping Veterans, municipal workers, the average working person and family who will excel if starting from home ownership opportuniites...
This is our New Years Mission, it is exciting and we are proud that you have helped us in the past, continue to support us, and thank so many of you for all you have done and will do in 2008. May it be a banner year for all of us as we move ahead in Faith and Hope and Action, that EVERYONE CAN HAVE A SIMPLE DECENT HOME.
