I went to the most depressing meeting of political movement i have seen in my life...last nite, i must admit..

the lack of govenrment to move quickly as is eneveloped in Mayor bloombergs words over the Albany crisis, was evident on a micro level last nite...its not about the party its about you being elected by the people to do your work....

what world have we created during this the week of democrary being remembered, ...what lack of activity and action...homerule overtakes saving homes...stepping in line for the party overtakes stepping up for the people...challenging the status quo was overtaken by not challenging anyone...

however there is hope...we will be looking at where we go from here, how we move ahead, how we help people, how we assist those in the future to live decently and with protection..for their lives and their homes in Mamoroneck...

we have seen the lack of activity, now we will move ahead strongly with our own...for the flood families....

 

Mamoroneck...we will be helping to hand out a sheet on flood issues to help give the input on what needs to be done to protect their homes, what protection needs to happen, what responses need to occur..how you can live with better protection..

 

On a different note today in Yonkers, we move ahead to be able to celebrate our Restores at Yonkers Green Business Week!  This important week celebrates our work, our times, our movement for the future...we have been hiring a number of people like Adrienne, like Kelvin, and Dan, like ten teenagers who will help us move ahead to be able to help us salvage, Restore, and generate income for the future of our work...and building homes....hats off to Yonkers Green Business Week..

 

New Orleans..Sharon Carew called, Jim i have three months temporary stay, 3 months to be able to get my house done..can you help she asks..i said we will ask God to help us and ask the public to help us go in early august to help fix it, pray for sharon and her family as well as us getting her home done...most appreciated..

 

in all we do and Say Let us Give Thanks to the one God that guides us and Helps us daily.

Todays Hilite is that i am off to work with the dept of Labor to be able to writing a grant that will include us in the following, teaching at risk kids and teens and non college kids to learn Green Building skills, Green weatherization and Green efforts of helping in communities..

 

Tonite is the Mamoroneck Flood meeting in Mamoroneck..and tomorrow I address the Green Business Summit, in Yonkers.!!!!!!

 

We are in an Exciting Time here in Habitat..

 

Last 15 teenagers come in to volunteer today, along with the great Korean Presbyterian church in Queens.. a great group!!!!!! every year they come..!!!!!!! God bless you !

A second chance at life..what is going on, where do we go..how does each minute on earth count..we are reminded more and more when stars die, icons, like Michael Jackson, Farah Fawcett…no better way to realize life moves quickly….a day, an accident, too much medicine, a disease..what minute do we cherish how many..

In our life with Habitat, each minute is gift…I showed our neighborhoods last nite again to a friend..changing lives..helping others…when I see the kids now in college, and my own, I know something is on the right path..the tour was after sitting with a friend, after sitting with them to be able to see that

An intern realizes there is more to life than politics. More to life than just counting votes, or coined press conferences…the gift lies with the people on the street, in the community, really changing…

Maybe that’s because so many of us become by standers.. we watch read, and pass life with no fervor, no action no prayer…

Instead of Medication, we need meditation

Instead of vegetation, Habitation….

Im going to college  Justin says to me.. last nite after i come from the city council meeting in Yonkers..where they unanimously approved...approved for another neighborhood, for another Justin, for another family and life changing experiences...it doesnt get any better for me..

 

Thanks to the city council of Yonekrs...for making this opportunity for us to happen...for us to be able to change more lives, volunteers, families yours and mine...I stop and pray at Orchard after walking and praying at the waterfront, beautiful in Yonkers..and then realize how we will make it all happen. ...

 

I then got to see our 9 home neighborhoood...I got As and Bs jim..at Lincoln High, I graduate Sunday.!

The floods come, Nan calls me, JIm the lights are out on the street..the high tide is coming, the families are scared...i go over to Mamoroneck where we build today, but last nite, fear gripped us as the rains came, families were looking out the back atthe river...whats going on...where do we go from here...we need to protect our homnes..they will never do nuthin...says on person...

of course we can fight...i call ch 12, got to keep the heat on..show the public that overdevelopment, smoke and mirrors and false promises stilll leave homes flooded...people dont like i speak out on this, but it is getting worse..not a one hundred year storm, but monthly stomrs, still cause the challenge...when do our Levees become rebuilt..this isnt Louisiana, its New York, the finest, the bravest, the smartest the richest, the most taxed.....more to follow.

 

HABITAT ACTION PLAN..appoint today Flood intern to work with Nita Loweys office, to create a Habitat Flood Advocacy team...a green team on this..needs to happen, Ive watched waited, but now its TIME.. A SUMMER OF CHANGE..

God is so good...for sure...

with that in mind, we take nothing for granted..TONITE WAS A BIG YONKERS NITE...so grateful to the Council..the Mayor, and the PEOPLE and FAMILIES..presenting to the city council..after speaking to HEROS TODAY ATHTE SIWANOY FOURTH GRADE IN PELHAM.I was honored to be able to

address the council about our next targeted neighborhood..Orchard Street..Usually after i go to a meeting there, i see so many people in our neighborhoods..the Hollows, where nine families live.Welove our home!!!!!!.I went to the home of a family whose son now lives in safety....then i went to another family.."JIm how does my son get scholarships"  then to antother, Jim Por favor, come visit..with Christian the new additon to the family.

Summer time and the living is easy, for some and not for othres..

we are busy working moving ahead, helping others, sharing with others, working with others..preparing sites, preparing for groups preparing for you..

Its in the preparation for sure, we need you  to help volunteer not only on sites, but as site hosts..

during the next couple of weeks i will hilite different volunteer positions you could work with us on..

 

First you could be a SITE HOST..help welcome people on the site, join us on the site, tell volutneers the work of the day, help with safety checks assist with different groups who come on site.. it makes the work of the constructoin managers easier..

 

Helping volunteers feel welcome and knowing a little about the project can be immsensely helpful, or welcoming people to the site and telling them about our project, and introducing them to the family, all great..

 

Join us as a Site HOst.\

 

Today is an important Yonkers day, I go to a meeting over the land design of our Zero Energy house and then I will be off tonite to a meeting of the Real Estate committee in Yonkers..

at that point God willing the land will be transferred for us to build on at Orchard Street..

 

many municpalities work with us to designate land for simple decent affordable homes...the Excitement is still building.      GO YONIKERS!

An early Friday morning, getting ready for moving ahead, working, building, a strong weekend..

Yesterday one of my staff Jason got hit by a car after an early meeting with me..we celebrated his graduating with his MBA, this coming Friday and we gave him a gift from our board..for being a hard worker..for getting out and doing all he does…he works with building depts., volunteers, high schools, corporations, you name it…with me for five years, I ask you say a prayer for his full recovery…someone ran a red light and the rest was history, again prayers appreciated.

 

So many work hard with us..in our work, in our sites, in our restores..so much going on, so much happening..

The Somers lpc group working hard to get a site off the ground, the Mamoroneck Larchmont group, the Yonkers lpc..and soon to be New Rochelle..

Thank you all for how hard you all work…

An early morning…volunteers writing to us…sites getting ready..celebrating a great busy week…

Returning from Washington we had a great day on Habitat on the Hill working hard, with habitats from across the country ...in Washington..returning on a 3am train yesterday to welcome 52 Credit Suisse employees our work was well cut out for us..

 

As i came back on the train, it reminded me of my father, who at one time was a conductor of a train in New England..it also reminded me of FDR on train stops. of Kennedys funeral across the country, of campaigns, of need for people with homes in poverty areas across this country...

 

As i looked out the window on the way to DC, i saw horrible inner city brick buildings, poverty to this day..

what war on poverty had occurred..who won..certainly not these people..

 

The Deputy commissioner of HUD spoke in Washington...at the conference and reminded us that every person should be able to go to bed at nite in a place..in a place of decent sleeping of waking up with hope, or educational opportunities...and then he commended habitat, because we are the ones doing it....

 

Our summer will be packed with building..this week alone we have Goldman Sachs, we have IBM and Credit Suiisse..along with that we have many youth coming all summer long, working with us..

 

The A Team...teenagers who come in from Suny Binghamton, Scarsdale high school, New Rochelle High School, Holy Cross College, and more...working all over our county sites.. we are working hard to make it work..to help one another, to help work together to change our world..

 

A SUMMER OF CHANGE! This summer then will be a Summer of Change, one where we work hard together, where we take advantage of the open door, that people now believe affordable homes are not a bad thing...that helping people to live decently in communities is a positive thing and we can get it right...
