Proverbs 24:  Though a man falls seven times he rises again…..we get up again..daily though we all have had our challenges..

We are blessed in so many ways to live, survive and make it so that we can get up again…and succeed..for many of our families Habitat allows families to rise again..to make it..to have their dream of the American home become a reality..or a home in Argentina..or a home in Hait….

 

Sometimes people give the attitude, give up. Give up on a person, give up on a family, give up on a neighborhood…we have watched our world suffer, because many have not taken heed with proverbs..but Habitat workers, families, volunteers…totally Rise up with so many..changing neighborhoods..

 

We are rising up in our Neighborhood Block Party on July 17^th in the Hollows… a neighborhood when I first went, had homes that were blighted, land that was empty, no community garden, and no hope in many ways…but we were able to build 9 homes there, help rehab others, build a community garden, and assist with helping with creating a Neighborhood watch association.. as well as help our kids with scholarships…what a Rising Story….

 

In Haiti, some might say, let the country go..dont help..but habitat there has built two thousand homes..that lasted after the earthquake, and 50,000 more committed…last nite as we prayed at Leglise de Baptiste, after I prayed with my Brothers and sisters at Bible Way…the community were praying prayers of Rising..Rising up to help change the community and Haiti…..

 

From there I met with Dr. Garvey of the Scrubbs..who stated..lets do a benefit for you the night of July 17^th…for Haiti at Dudleys in New Rochelle…

 

I am surrounded by so many people who help me Rise every day, though I have fallen, and we Rise up together..to help others Raise up their homes..of love, of sweat and of joy in the Mortar Joints and in their communities.. May God help you Rise today…..jjk

Go green with habitat…visit our Habitat restore in Mt Vernon today or this Friday..no question.

We have much to do, we have to change the world away from oil to solar, wind and alternative energy..

This is something that we have no choice…BP doesn’t care, greed doesn’t care…we need to look at alternative transportation and more..

We are building GREEN in our homes in Many ways, we are also going to college denim jeans for insulation as well..

We are using solar in our next home..and are encouraging alternative transport as well..

Thanks to all who helped us with a successful event last nite..

Helping us with our work, with our raising support for our families in Yonkiers! We were all crying as we heard of Margaret Fraina’s story about how she and her kids from Lincoln High school all cried as they put in sheetrock…on a home and they cried knowing kids would live in the home they helped build!

What a blessed event..we are so grateful!

The floods of Mamoroneck, the oil in the gulf…20 year studies..the elephant of government moving to slowly…smoke and mirrors?  The people of mamoroneck feel often put upon..19,000 tax payers who feel overdevelopment, lack of maintainance and study after study of a problem that the up county towns don’t want to be fixed..or care to…but there are some recommendations..

I proposed inkind construction donation from companies..as well as creating a private fund now to help accrue to fix problems..like a Friends of the library organization only called..THE NO MORE FLOODS FUND..or something there abouts..65 per cetn federal monies get triggered in five years if there is matching monies…but political will has to be there, it wasn’t in 1989..lets get it done and take control.

We will go in once amonth with volunteers into the Rivers as well

Create a citizen advisory board, that actually helps write the report with the ACE  (Army corps of engineers) who are working on the five year study.

Nita Lowey or legislators from this area can write a law stopping home rule versus fixing FEMA disaster problems…70 million dollars or more were lost or spent..in april 2007 of tax money

 

I am a strong believer in the country we live in.. and that we can change things still to this day..Habitat does it every day with our own sweat equity day in and day out..

 

Tonite we celebrate our HABITAT HEROES..locally in Yonkers…we have so many Local HABITAT HEROS.. all over the county that we share these small gatherings to raise support and celebrate their hard work..stay tuned…tonite at 66 Main Street. Yonkers.

A great habitat leader of New Song ministry in Sandtown passed away..this past week..alex tibbell..though never having met him, he was co founder of New Song ministry as well as Sandtown habitat…in Baltimore..he diligently with prayer and his wife, started the Sandtown Habitat…Millard Fuller used to say to me, Jim you got to go visit there..you got to go see what these people are doing…congregations have helped them..and the ministry to build more than 300 homes a blessing..i went to visit one of the beautiful rehabbed row houses that family lived in two months ago and went to a chic coffee shop that a rehabilitated worker now owns and runs..a church, a health care center, a school all started..the Holy Spirit blessed their work for sure..

 

With that in mind.. we see so much that needs to be done in our neigborhoods..faith based ministries, allow for a spiritual context like Nehemiah to help rebuild our inner cities…to help reach out ..to help repair and take back the breach and rebuild the walls of HOPE AND HOMES…Alex God bless you, and all at Sandown Habitat.. you are in my prayers today..

 

Today this Saturday volunteers go to Mamoroneck..yesterday I spoke to a financial person about the economic meltdown..what happened..i ask..whats a deriviative..not an easy answer to give..

 

We have no derivatives at habitat, we have no interest like the book of Exodus challenges us to chare no usury to our brothers and sisters in the world, we have no agenda to bundle or resell our homes..our work..to rebuild communities together in the love of God..so everyone can go to bed in a simple decent home…together.. God bless you…

A great weekend..now Monday and we start our training program for unemployed people…

And we are now building with Barclays bank and volunteers all week..Time to finish homes this summer….no question!

We are blessed in all who come to join us!  With that in mind..i want to thank my friends at Congregation Kol Ami who have always helped us..and been there with Katrina families, and working on our homes in White Plains…thank you so much!

 

We get ready fro our great event this Thursday..celebrating Margaret Fraina..for her work wth us, Rich Rodrique and also Bob Walters…great news in Yonkers..we have so much going on..

We face  a relentless struggle in every corner of the globe...not Obama, but John F Kennedy April 20, 1961..

we face a relentless struggle in every corner of the country...one might add...for sure...with that in mind...we move ahead..

the gulf coast will not be solved by government or BP, but us..

the neighborhood crime wont be stopped by government but by neighbors..

stay tuned..our Neighborhood Development association is growing by leaps and bounds..like an organc community garden..growing neighborhoods from the inside up..to people are the priority, we can make amazing things happen..

so GET INVOLVED THIS SUMMER THE SUMMER OF THE KICKOFF OF THE DECADE OF SERVICE!

Thankst o our friends in the Hollows last nite...on Poarch Street, on Mulberry on Seymour...a great neighborhood, habitat continues to be a force in helping to work iwth our families there, and our other neigbhors in ministry...there is nothing for the kids, one parent yells...the police respond, we have budget cuts..the council states no money to be found...but ..the crisis is the opportunity to be able to get people again together..can we start a Neighborhood watch, i ask...fifteen people sign up immediately..

two teens later state wtih a deflated basketball playing..with no hoop..they took our hoop down..

i went to the back of my car got my basketball gave it to them, and stated, we will get one donated for you..

it only takes a little from everyone to work together, and it multiplies...teh story cotninues..the dream continues the relationships build and the homes and our families blessing..

 

i sat on the porch with three of our families before the meeting at their home...nine habitat homes stood, we all helped build...we now rested, thanked God and celebrated our Holy Neighborhood, everyone together as a team..

two families before they lived there were affected by guns, one loss a life..others lived in basements..now they have their Habitat Hollows Neighborhood..God bless you all for supporting continuing efforts like these to change neighborhoods, wtih our wtihout budget cuts...we needyour support God bless you

In the Book of Nehemiah..Nehemiah was a Governor who helped to challenge the people to think and pray about revitalization, about renewal, about new community building!  This becomes a major theme in work of community development people and agencies, looking to help rebuild, to help see communities flower instead of flounder..to renew and rebuild, to have people change their course rather than crumble…

So many communities across the county and country and in other countries have been given up in hope…but in my life I have seen neighborhoods renewed and rebuilt..in Paterson the Eastside in NJ where drug dealers and prostitutes walked,now homeowners play in yards and their kids go to a rebuilt

Library to study…in the Lower East Side, where empty buildings were gutted and I would visit the homeless trying to aid them, now many apartments and parks stand and a community garden on E 8^th street there….in Yonkers on Willow, where I picked up bullets on the ground,now seven homes stand…and on Porach Street, 9 habitat homes stand, where we once saw rubble, and a community garden…with families together organizing, loving life….like Mrs Dian and Obie, who were were me at the end of the day…looking at their flowers in front of their habitat homes, or the dad of Anthony, whose son was shot, in a tough neighborhood and we moved them out of there…Join us in this Nehemiah mission join us to rebuild and help others…may God bless you in all you do…

What a week..never a dull moment.to say the least.

We have much to do, and we continue to work so hard, in all we do..today thanks to Horace Greeley high school for volunteering, along with Kim..Guthier from France.Tom CC and Mary and all the gang..

Working in Mamoroneck and Somers, tomorrow we have work to be done in Marmoneck, New Rochelle and Somers..never a dull moment to say the least..God continues to bless all we do..

As we begin this Monday we welcome a great group from Ct. coming to build with us..many are joining us and this high school group is like the JCC group or the Horace Greeley group that helped us this weekend…World Changers! Yes that’s right..when they get in service, with their hands dirty and help build a home, they are world changers…..no question…so we say THANK YOU to all our world Changers who are helping us this summer..the youth ..the future..and now you..Join us!!!!!

Holy Thursday, not once a year, but every week….! Join us in praying for our ministry here during this Thursday and every one..Prayers are powerful..from my praying at Shabbat Service, to our evangelical brothers and sisters, to our Catholic and Protestant congregations to individiuals who pray unceasingly, pray for our work, our neighborhoods, our changing lives and safe communities!

It is time to change the gulf coast situation as well..change it so that we can help to see families not in despair, no water end up here, no sadness anywhere…lets speak up and act..

 

We also tithe another check today to Haiti, more than 110,000 now gone there…from us.. God is so good!

Neighborhoods…you know daily we look to have people assist us..and people in the neighborhoods are paramount…it is a gift for us to work in each neighborhood and to be part of it..to live in them to celebrate them….

 

This morning, I passed mi hermanos y hermanas, my friends, from the school, Mr Bongo, our neighbors, Ira and his wife, from the local synagogue, and many many more..what a gift to wake up, talk to others, say hi and know you are in a community….are you in a community, are you living where you know your neighbors..do you talk to the person on the train you have seen for five years…or the person down the street…help us in our Neighborhoods, from here to Mt Vernon to Mt Kisco..help us create Local Project committees in our work, to increase our neighborhood efforts..Join us!!!!!! Neighborhoods are not built on wealth, but are built on the wealth of each individuals quality and life …
