You must be the change you wish to see in the world….Gandhi…..Natasha my former high school leader fromLincoln High school,  now at Pace U…writes, a note from Gandhi on the end of her request to come in..

A great quote, a great person..no question..can I come between now and Jan 19th she writes to help…while I am on vacation..for semester break..Many students help to come and help us during this time, join us! During this time going on, we hope to be able finish homes, start new ones, and assist

We also have a need for us to be able to increase our weatherization efforts…

God bless you… to all our future leaders, who will change the world!

Yesterday as I went to Times Sq Church and prayed for a great year, for all of us.. I prayed for what we are doing across the county the country…

I also remember how we walked and took down the Regis and Kelly House on the West End, framed up a house in the Union Square, and also we built New Orleans Homes in Rockefeller Center…what an amazing thing to be one of the only groups to ever build homes or take them down, in Manhattan.

Today we look to help have a blessed end of the year, set some goals, work together and make it happen. Join us!

Sunday before Christmas the Restore is open on Main street. Dec 20th..Santa is coming..and the kdis are too.

The snow fell, but not before we got our floors and walls up in Somers on the house, not before we got insulation in the homes on Park Place Mamoroneck and in New Rochelle, Howard avenue…not before we could celebrate building warm homes, and having our work celebrated in three local papers this week..

Christmas time is a celebration..i must thank our Lord Jesus, no matter what faith for calling us to action..i am blessed to work with my Jewish and Muslim brothers and sisters..but am so grateful for the faith and action we are all called to under this umbrella of this ministry…

This year, is our best year to come, you have made it this way..please make a donation on line today, so we move strong into the future..God bless

As i drove by teh homes on Willow then the hollows in our two neighborhood associations..

i was able to say hi to Grace and Anthony, then was able to say hi to Andre..Andre was outside proudly on his porch the house decorated with Christmas decorations...holiday homes lighting up the whole street..

along with that he was telling me proudly...Yachary his daughter wants to go to U Albany. she did great in school...Junior his son, wants to play baseball and is excelling in All Hallows..what a great life to see this...

we have transformed the street...we helped the neigbhors, have our office there, have great hope in all we do..we are so blessed..

Then when i went to the Hollows, lights were shed over four of our nine homes...a reindeer on Melissas home..the triplets home was lit with great holiday fun and lights...God has guided all our homes with the angels watching over...

Now to our next neighborhood..i went toi look at the site where our Zero Energy home is going to be...we have had GREEN HOMES..since 1997 utilizing SIP panels, utllizing energy star labels, utilizing reengineered wood, utlizing solar panels and more...before it was in vogue, we have weatherized, help and assisted in all we have done to save utilities and transform neighborhoods..

hats off to Sebeda Cruz of NYPA who came to visit yesterday and also thank you to Janine Fazzina who is our leader with Martin Ball from Citibank..stay tuned... God bless you all, Christmas and Hannukah is here...and Habitat families are blessed because of you...donate now...we need it for our next neigbhborhoods...

what a weekend..Thanksgiving weekend found so many people helping so many families..Helping one another is the key to all we do...thekey to our lives, the key to our work!

We are involved with working hard on homes in New Rochelle, in Yonkers, in Mt Vernon, in Somers, in Mt Kisco..today i am honored tohave Jim Palmer the village manager of Mt Kisco coming to visit with me at my office about helping seniors and possible new homes..

also Mt Vernon is off and running with us, helping us in a big way, looking to help us in all we do, assisting us in finidng land, rehabbing homes...it is a tough time, govt funds see school budgets being cut, seeing city budgets being cut, but that is where sweat equity and helping comes in again..real community building...a crisis is the opportunity to get out and help again with the spirit of volunteerism....

transition...yesterday i took my bike ride in New Rochelle and ended another ride in Grand centrail after getting off in Harlem...

first in New Ro, I rode past five island, hudson park, and past the home on pelham we rehabbed and the post office benches..and the Bracy apartments...all painted by Brush with Kindness volunteers..

then i took my bike later on the train got off in Harlem and rode down park avenue...kids were playing soccer after i left 125th and then 124th where i used to volunteer years ago where empty buildings stood and drug dealers tried to take down our building we were rehabbing for homeless...with Fr David Kirk and Emmaus House...

Then i went past many municipal housing authoritiies...thousands of people live in these...i always wish they were condos instead of managed apartments for families there...

along with that, i rode down Park avenue where the rich and famous live.. but also you see the homeless at nite outside one of the churches...

i think..where do people live..what a world we live in, wht a diverse world..what a diverse opportunity for habitat to help improve it, for sure...God bless

ps dont forget dec 10th is our holiday party at New Ro high school...

GREEN BLOG!

You can reduce your load on the earth's limited resources by taking simple conservation steps taht actually save you money.  Cutting back on energy usage at home even by a smallamount can reap large benefits

Ouractivities of daily living generate tremendous amounts of trash-400 billions bvpounds a year.. recyling even a little can reduce that amount dramatically.

syaing no to disposables and using durable alternatives, such as ceramic coffee mugs, reduces trash, costs and chemical exposure at the same time.

Chemicals in household products can harmful effects on your health and environment...also household furnishings, including mattresses, carpets, and furntirue made from particle board....

An article in Yorktown where Habitat has built..states that there is no stick on the need...the stick to help us build homes all over the county is the desire by Habitat that everyone have a simple decent home to live in at nite ...that there is no substandard housing...that kids arent being shot at, while others have no need...and to this end our sticks are our hammers, our motivation is our love of the one God we all believe in, Muslim, Christian, Jew, whoever wants to join faith or no faith..and the ability to know we can do this...with your help...

a prayer for you today, and for us..please during this Holiday season send your support. God bless, jjk

a great day today, Blessed the Lord in all we have and praise His Holy Name..Solomon Schecter School and JFK schools were on site, both religious schools, Jewish and Catholic, both working on sites both recognizing we are a faith in action program, no question...this important recogntion sometimes takes years for someone to recognize, takes a lifetime, takes a moment if you want...in my own tradition i was taught to kill people on the sports fields as a good Catholic...go go go!  instead it should have been killing poverty...sports is great but think about the money that goes into every game, the weekends that are sat infront of televisions, the art and music and service and helping that people could be involved in, to say the least....do you think there is a big screen in heaven..i do, only showing videos of what i see every weekend, people of all faiths in action changing the world ...God bless you..j

Imagine if there was only one type of mortgage a habitat interest free mortgage..just really think abuot this today, everyone would be a tax payer, you wouldnt need tax payer incentives in 8000 credits, but you could make the mortgages 20,30 40 years..savings would occur, and no refinancing could happen that were to predatory lendors...a dream..who knows....

we are the number one home builder this year, and will continue to grow.

Kudoes to Jim Palmer and Mt kisco..i stopped by a town yesterday in village hall, a new library second floor, pride, caring, thinking about workers...congrads..we are giving a talk on greening the community, along with rehabbing homes, seniors homes, and helping to build new ones, ... a new lpc is growing there, next thursday at 3pm.
