as we look at things and see where we re heading, interesting times...for sure..
a great speech by Obama. no question, there is a fundamental disconnect between the federal govt, and the local level...especially here in westchester...diatribes locally about caring, but we are overtaxed and the big developers continue to get the tax breaks in the county, where no relief has gone to the average citizen...applying to politics on the whole..as you often have may have heard me write...in new orleans last time, the governor president, mayor all pointed fingers, while a thousand people died...unbelievable..bringing it locally, the diatribes about caring, and going green for instance finds things that have left people in ways that hurt many ...unsafe traffic patterns..unsafe bike riding lanes..lots about nothing, ...where do we make the connect again..stay tuned.
as we come to our Labor day weekend, we pray your Labor be blessed that we come back to real principles and real action of community organizing and real grassroots caring, and that we celebrate life and less taxes together..with more sweat equity and home ownership..jjk

a hero died today, no question..
with love in his heart.Dominic his neighbor and friend with family call me early this morning...Jim he died...no name was necessary..he was the big He, a great communitarian..a great New Rochellian, a great man. Mr. Pond..no question...part of life. he now is in heaven..many many people came together on his basketball court he made for all kids in the world, many came together to help be with him...his home burnt in a fire, we were there with 700 volunteers to help him, just to be part of his life.. i remember bringing my kids to his home...to see decoations..he would decorate his home every single holiday...he passed I believe at 87 or 88, but man this guy is in heaven ....he gave and gave and gave..he kept kids in his yard, making sure they had a place to stay..he just realized life was about giving back...on his lawn, a plaque to his home was dedicated to his mom...the essence of life is to give back..in so many words it said..Rissa his niece, no sweeter came into our lives when the fire happened...he just gave and gave and gave...please pray for the family..two weeks ago dominic and i went to visit him in his home...he had been taken to the hospital...
Remember him in your prayers today, in your thoughts and the family...thank you Mr Pond for being such an example!!!!!

What a day, A team members wrapping up their summer, Harvey school comes out next week..IBM volunteers lining up..
And the HIT team..Habitat interfaith team is forming…and ready to go into high gear..all of this means we are moving into a CAMPAIGN, not a presidential campaign, but a Grassroots campaign of winning the war against poverty..with building homes…look how much goes into ad money now, it could be houses..how many of your donations are going into political contributioins…we need house contributions…or Rachel who stopped by the other day and said..with her two year old..I need ahome for my family, I work I never dream..Melissa who came in today stated..I love my home, I work hard..nobody is taking anything away, we help our neighborhood…so many so many need help…the Journal News publishes today wealth disparity in Westchester county grows….school programs get cut, foreclosures increasing…help us CHANGE this situation now!!!!!! Lives, neigborhoods and our futures depend upon it..yes our futures, because if one suffers we all suffer..with schools around the corner …lets bring real hope..keep real American Dreams alive, not with talk but with action..with your help and mine. Spoke today at a rotary meeting at an unbelievably rich country club in rye…what an unbelievable view..very rarely have I seen such wealthy looking digs…yet in heaven, I believe there are no private clubs, and people don't live in mcmansions…why aren't you finished the house in rye, one gentleman asked..ive been waiting for you, I respond…the rotary has a great mission..service..but mission statements are only as good as application..i was honored to speak there, and know they do many great things and many came up to offer help…including a great judge…we live in one two three four worlds..this was first first, I usually reach out to second and third worlds in Westchester and hope we become one world..so remember theres only one club in heaven, built upon how we help one another here….God bless, jjk

what a weekend, a great day, with many volunteering...Fordham Law School students volunteer with us on Sat in Yonkers...many come out and help us in the Restores..a new volunteer walks in, can i help...Mary the ultimate volunteer is off for vacation so perfect timing...school is ready to start and Grenwich High School contacts me to start off early with building...Grenwich leader Web and his friend come and see me early Sat..to get dates to build and join us again, Grenwich borders our Portchester line and we build closer in westchester than we do in Ct. in some places..welcome back..they also have been going to mexico to build for years, which i started when i first got them off the ground.. from there..Tom walks in, can i help you talk to someone who wants to get you foreclosures to buy, and then another good gentleman, comes in, can i paint this weekend for you..man what a great life. so many want to help our mission...remember those who have no homes, and this crisis will be an opportunity to get back to basics..last the trolley ran again, with free public transportation near a bulding i want to buy..so here goes, on Monday we continue to get back in the swing..last nite i road and drove my son to Albany to collgege, looking at old housing stock there, and passing the capital, where the state is in interesting times..let us hope and pray and work to change the conditions to make New Yorkers be proud prudent and prayerful to make this one of the greatest states in the country, jjk

from here on in we have work to be done, places to help, people to see, homes to build...I really need to hilite one group that has sent hundreds of volunteers over the years to us...called Youth and family focus..
they have done a great job with us, helping us, guiding us..being with us, challenging us..they come in from Queens all summer long with youth, helping with our warehouse, helping to build homes, paint, sand walls, anything we need help with, assisting in restores, etc..

an amazing weekend, an now we prepare to go back to school, to activities, to work, our big efforts to make it happen, to continue to reinvigorate, excite, and build many many more homes in this county, on this our 20th anniversary..no question..so we are grateful for all of you helping us.
at our Restore yesterday we had many customers, people volunteers, come thru..like a couple who says i want to give back, i want to help...i am a contractor, name the day and i am with you..he and his wife and son are missionaries of sorts, loving life, God their Lord, and service...amazing..
we then had the UN Posse, agroup students, who play a unique type of music that lit up the early evening, with trumpets, sax, piano, singing keys, and more..thank you so much, they were excited to have a venue to play at..
they liftd the spirits of walkers by and many stood and listened..
Join us this fall, in all we do, from our bike ride, to our walk for homes, to our golft ournament, to building on sites..it is important in all we do..we need you.

Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; he rises to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice...Blessed are all those who wait for him....in the book of Isaiah the prophey wrote..How good God is to all of us ..who wait, trust with abundant love, with gratitude..like an ostrich we often put our head in the sand..i do, and then say, wheres the beach..theres no sand because i dont see..i just havent picked up my head...God wants all tohave a home in our world, in our mission, in Westchester, we just have to pick our heads up..like an ostrich in the sand, many said to me, you cant build homes in Westchester, the sand of greed and prejudice and no land and cost of land surrounds you...so when i look up, i look up in the air, i see up building condo buildings,...i see you helping to get sponsors, i see you spreading the word or getting your congregation involved or you individually, getiting out of the sand and helping us to fulfill our mission...I need somoeone to start making a lead gift towards 601 main street...this week we will build a campaign to do that, to have more homes on Main street, reall affordable homes...a lot of people keep their head in the sand and see many politicians who tell us to put our heads in the sand and say, there is affordable housing in our community, or I really care as a politician..just keep your head in the sand while i build another high rise, and pretend the affordable homes are there..someday they will drive thru the Tappan Zee bridge in a hole created by too many cars on thw way to the Catskills...all right...so lets get our heads out of the sand, lets give a gift today, and lets make it happen. I am personally giving a five hundred dollar gift today towards the condo building...i promise not to calll it the Ostrich building,..but i will call it the building of vision, a buildng of real affordability..will you match this gift, mo matter how big or small, time to realize God has given us all we need, he shows us compassion, he guides us, and he wants you to plant a seed gift today of goodness so we can build true communities. a great day, Andrew from Goldman says he is on board and they have had a great morning..the former Bridgeport Director of Habitat comes by to say hi...the League of women voters chair stops to say Jim can you help with affordable housing, a dialogue and our environment committee...Starwood Hotels offers to donate another golf sponsorship and furniture today from their warehouse...along with the HABITAT H.I.T. team being formed. (HABITAT INTERFAITH TEAM) for the fall...with gratitude to God for all, we have so much to be thankful for...and our 911 BUILDATHON IS GAINING STEAM..for this we thank you to all our volunteers, supporters, individual donors, we need your help...and you know we have only just begun!!!!!!

what a day night day....sometimes days literally are never ending in our lives..and run with little sleep but much satisfaction...yesterday morning i was blessed by founder Millard Fuller calling early..I need a shot of Jim Killoran he says and your enthusiasm...i have often called him to say the same and for inspiration..so I am blessed to hear him say that to me...his work continues iwth his wife and ministry across the world..need you to come to El Salvador..to build...last time being there, was an important event for me..seeing a different country, where freedoms were little, machine guns abound protecting us and homes were dedvestated by earhquakers and we rebuilt them in Sonsonate...a cross hangs n front of me daily remindming me of El Salvador, returning with that as it says el salvador at the bottom, it is an amazing place to see..to be part of tohelp at...as well as helping here....
here we had Goldman Sachs, my return veterans, Mike Daly and Bernie and company, 24 strong for the day and another company out, helping in a burnt house rehab...
totally a blessed day..we also closed on the Dorseys family house..closed on it, a house that took so long and was a horrible build site, that someone even donated it to us...and now a family lives there with great job...a miracle every time a closing...then youth like andrew who help..first year in Bucknell, reliable all the time, what do you need today he asks...and then comes in Sat. with the same question...the stories go on..next to follow on our four horseman...who help us...when i thnk of what goes into our work, how many of you help in so many ways..we have only just begun..God bless, jjk

I am blessed to know many...last nite, Americorp volunteer Brian returned to visit with me, he is working with homeless now in manhattan, but stays in contact...we called california and florida, where two other americorp are working...one in modesto the other jacksonville....americorp helped us with floods across the county in mamoroneck and beyond..everyday is gift, Brian reminds me i taught him..so blessed to think we were able to pull emergency teams into action from americorp and meet great people like Brian and Brett and Nicole....Rabbi Cahana writer in an email..glad you met my son, thank you for the picture of the house we worked on in NOLA...he is in Portrland Oregon ,now, but he and his congregation came to NOLA to work on homes in New Orleans...for Katrina families, as well as helping here...what a blessing..for all of us...
and in our Restore today, we see so many that come in, thank you, is the Armory open, what are they doing, why cant they save a historic building....

Marketplace ministry, a great lawyer came by and talked to me last nite.. this is marketplace ministry...she states.. the Restore...so grateful...for her realizing our Restores are great places here and across the country for ministry..for sharing, for bringing people together..i was there till 10 pm and people were walking in our Main Street location , loving life, buying, Jewish, Christian Muslim, all together, helping to have fun, helping to buy, helping t o share, helping to talk...a great place to find a treasure, ...and the treasure they realize lies behind what the money goes to, building homes, helping families, helping displaced families, helping to rehab houses, helping to fund our missoin...helping us to be so blessed in all we do...so that we can continue on with our work......jjk
