This Hanukkah Christmas New Year has been an interesting one to say the least..

We have been helping no stop including today helping a seniors family get heat, their home rehabbed for a disabled daughter, and bringing hope everyday

Another volunteer comes by..in Ossining in the town on Chappaqua.

We moved Alvin and his wife into a condo, what a joy, a former crack house now a beautiful home for a family..amazing!

We also helped 30 plus fire victims with new coats gloves, hats and socks, given  out to them by myself after I was contacted to respond…

In Mamoroneck..

We get ready for another ribbon cutting of a home to start at historic #Moquette Row, this great project will move quickly and help a family live with the American dream of home ownership!

With that in mind, we need your continued support..Chappaqua King street will have great momentum and two more homes in Millwood.

We will start a shipping container home in Millwood too…amazing..

We also gave out 500 gifts in the rockaways to our friends there….

With all of that we say thank you!   we are blessed by you, and ask for your prayers, and for your donation..

It is all a  true blessing to our vital work! God bless

We were honored to speak at the Westfair Millieniels nite, for awards..

The challenges to milleniels are many, college debt, no ability to own, but great hearts..

We hope to change this with our milleniel advisory committee. We will have a milleniel build meeting…

And milleniel build week.

As we speak people in Puerto Rico are still suffering, no electricity many without water and food, we will be going

There within two weeks…my wifes family is from there, and in their honor we created the Diana build.

Thanks to Mamoroneck Diner and Gjokos and the many who have helped us over the years.. to assist us make it..

We continue.. in our vital work, to make things happen..we save lives, we change communities and we bring hope and love..

With that in mind we are excited this week we start another project on Moquette Row…a home and helping to rehab the neighborhood

We have estimates of more than 2 million dollrs of volunteer labor, brush with kindness, and rehabs of former crack houses in this neighborhood.

We make it NMU, will you join us today?

The week that is..

It has been a long time since I have written…Hurricane Sandy, our relief efforts of 9000 plus volunteers, then my wife passed away, after two years of home hospice, and just back into feeling like I can share again.

Certainly this week with the anniversary of Hurricane Sandy being five years is one good reason.

Also our journey to our 30th anniversary celebration is another…and last our work to help

Be part of relief efforts in Puerto Rico (my wifes family from there) personally moved me to write some thoughts.

Our efforts are blessed, yes BLESSED by God with our volunteers…..our ministry of love has been a long journey in action and love…from helping to rehab a rundown three unit condo in yonkers, to helping to start a new neighborhood in white plains, of 6 new homes, to moving a family out of harms way whose 3 year old was shot and killed and we moved them into a new home.and to relief from Mamoroneck to sandy has been unbelievable.  From deep sadness to great joy, from distressed homes to energy efficient….from substandard hoods, to NMU and hoods for good…

I will be sharing 30th anniversary stories to help hilite this journey and ask for your prayers and support as we move ahead to build and rebuild…

With that in mind in all we say and do we say thanks to God for you..

The pundits babble on radio..while people wade in water, suffering, no homes, no city, no placement…I cant always understand it, but can turn it off.

The relief effort is vital..we are accepting gift cards for Houstonians, that will assist.  Today is the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina…NOLA is getting hit by rain today as well….we pray for you NOLA and all our friends…there…

Yesterday on News12 we had coverage of our efforts to help. Houston, we are accepting gift cards now, and or donations..we will do our music festival Oct 8th for helping to raise money for there as well…email me or go to habitatwc.org to make a donation…we have families on the ground, and organizations…Houston@habitatwc.org

Also congrads to Mike Valesquez, who goes to Kuwait, but gets married today..he and his lovely bride an honor to be with him….he is one of our Soldier Sons..One Team one Fight..so blessed that you will be married to such a great woman..we got your six!

With that in mind, the world is fragile, but with Gods help, with prayer and action, we get through it…

We challenge everyone to realize we are only a disaster away…be prepared,..and when people need help..help us help them…God bless you!

The mission continues…on the phone yesterday w Huoston and some of our partners, groups are calling to see what we can do bring supplies, we will be there to help…thank you! we have so many who know we are real, we are supportive and will be there to help!

With that in mind, we are planning  a trip there and will get back shortly to you on exact date. The long term rebuilding like Sandy will take Gutting and mucking, supplies, money, labor, and more to help people get whole……for a long time to come..like we rehabbed in NOLA, and Mamoroneck and Sandy, and Yonkers, we have rehabbed thousands of homes, flooded, and zombie homes, that now families returned too.

Lessons learned…for sure, look at prudent development…cutting corners, costs lives…more to follow on that one..email Houston@habitatwc.org

Just returned from an early morning visit in #Portchester looking at the Grove ST Initiative, I love Portchester, we love Portchester…I started there 25 plus years ago, and became on the board, then the vicepresident of the board and then the President of the board…and finally CEO..we built on Grove St in Portchester, and the Grove Street Initiatives are upon us.. we will build again there…and look forward to working with the great Village of Portchester, and all its citizens and members and leaders to help!

The county is made up of 47 towns and cities, all over..multiple police forces, schools, administrations..oh vey…but Portchester is a small locally run town, home of Ed Sullivan by the way..and it is on the move..

We love Portchester, if you want to get involved there, email me jim@habitatwc.org calme t 914 403 4821…the 30 anniversary moves ahead..

Houston, under water, very sad…the big one was coming, last year in March 2016 dire warnings were made from Ike that Houston was so vunerable..

Along with that our lessons as a country, need to be reviewed..overdevelopment, throwing the dice is so risky and we have risked much, our country, our lives

From Manhattan to Rockaways from Mamoroneck to Rockport and from Houston to Hurricane Katrina areas…we have not thought long range..

The young history of our country has produced greatness and challenges, life and overdelopment, wealth and extreame poverty…to that end we continue

Today we have en email Houston@habitwatwc.org and those wanting to help with our relief…please email..or donate

I am contract with boots on the ground and we will also help displaced Houstonians who end up here. We already have places we know that will be made available to help…

It is a time we need to pray, act, and help one another, our lives and America depends upon it.

Helping me to work on projects to make the world and communities better…from Homes to in this case our 911

Community garden we say Todah!

The theology of the hammer resounds and hammers ahead stronger than ever…I met with my hammerers yesterday, builders

Campers in Chappaqua yesterday..100 builders campers this past summer….amazing.

We are looking to do this all year round, stay tuned..

As well as starting DYI classes regularly..

And our Restore continues to shine on main st..no question.

Today the speed of projects In Newrochelle, specifically

SoNo NewRochelle, are being pushed through at a rate unhealthy for the thousands who live downtown..it might be healthy for the pension of poiliticians and their pockets, but

The Journal News doesnot want to touch anyofthe real issues, as someone stated on the qt, from lohud, this is an important market, we wont rock the boat..Ihave been on Main street for more than 25 years.  The changes, with no painting of g arbage cans, promises of walkingpolice which hasn’t happened ( I even donated a bike to the Pact unit in hopes of getting an allocated police person for the downtown) and pedestrians continuingto be fearful to walk, and or bike downtown or in the city, has the smoke and mirror machine doing double time….as a matter of fact more pr positions have been hired, while the bike share program three years later is non existent, two way traffic is non existent,..the new contractors in sono new ro almost get hit by cars…and a city councilor comes to me and says, jim they took your idea, we will move into a downtown office in a new building…..instead of filling the many rental spaces….

Add the icing on the cake the non existence of term limits and you have a brew for a dangerous state of non voter and citizen participation. They have even limited citizens to be heard in public meetings….Plus a community benefits lackee has been hired to pretend putting a space ship in a small green space, now touted by ivar as a passive park outside a library and buildings where thousands of kids are…so the art purchased by California from Sony for 80,000 plus and a company getting landscaping tax dollars for more….well…you know the deal….

A new paradigm shift is in order..stay tuned for my writings in my next blogs on which way is needed

As I write, as we go through this 30th anniversary year so many things to think about

The appearance on the #Today

show for Habitat and Maxwell Houses build across the country..2 sponsored here in Ossining and in MtVernon

The tearing down of the #KB builders Regis and Kelly house we salvaged..and now is in ahome on North Avenue in NewRochelle

The sadness of hearing a baby shot and we moved the family from apartment to a home..their college kids now graduated..

The work we did in floods of Mamoroneck and then Hurricane Sandy

Being in Belfast in N Ireland building homes with Protestands and Catholics and Jews, during the potential signing of the Good Friday agreement

Helping earthquake vicitms in El Salvador and in Haiti

Building many homes in Mexico over the years..

Helping to meet three presidents about 20 wanna be presidents, visiting the white house, building with Presidents and having a President and Secretary of state

Respond to our humble Christmas event..

Helping to create #NMU No MoreUgly..campaign..stay tuned..

We have only just begun! God bless you, everyone a simple decent home…

This week continues with amazing stories..like working in #Millwood, we get a house that

A poor woman died in…she was living in her car…she would live sometimes in her parking lot and the neighbors parking lot..

Never to be seen or heard from, though local emergency and police knew…

A sad tragic story..and one of our family members in a lake Peekskill habitat home knew her..he and his mother would pick her up and take her for a shower and food, she had suffered so much..

Now we build there..we move ahead to get two families homes…making condos of them.  We also help our neighbor a #vietnam veteran who needs help on his families home.  Along with that we get a call to help another elderly person who cant take care of his home..

Amazing…God is working. 6 projects In the town of NewCastle…blessings as we do mitzvah and Christian Charity and American Dream making..

The stories continue, only real, thank you God for every Volunteer, every person, who wants to help..

People cant realize that taking zombie homes and rehabbing them is a breath of fresh air, for sure.

With that in mind, we are excited to create an initiative across this county to help make it

No more zombies and no more ugly..NMU…one of our first homes we helped rehab was a home in Greenburgh, a former Crack  house, I remember I walked in and there crack viles all over the floors, and needless. The police had called me and said..we were watching this old house,..and saw habitat rehabs…can you come and see..

We went over and saw what was going on..3 police cars were waiting and officer Rudy was there, waiting for me, and walked thru the house, and realized this could be a home..from there a mom with her kids who have now graduated college, own their home! A phoenix rising out of the ashes..amazing!

We are working on former crack houses for Veterans homes in Yonkers. We worked where a little crack house was in White Plains and now 6 homes stand..we have taken other brick rehabs that another not for profit dropped and now three families are in there..

Zombie homes take longer to rehab, you never know their needs..however the greenest house you have is the one you save…

If you know of a zombie home that we can make NMU, beautiful, and make it a home again, email me jim@habitatwc.org

It stabilizes the neighborhood, puts the land back ono taxes, and helps us  to transform whole neighobrhoods as we look at the whole not just the home.  (making community gardens, starting activity, painting and fixing parks, etc..)

With that in mind we move ahead! God bless you….

Every day is earth day…usually the one day a year event, takes time and lots of energy from our regular work…every day with us is earth day…for example, did you know we have won awards for our flood designed homes?  How about

Our zero energy home?  We also have used Structural insulated panels since 1996 on the cutting edge of energy efficiency twenty years later…how about our Blue Jean Insulation, not fiberglass made of recycled jeans…we also have 15 community gardens from abandoned lots..we have 160 planters in three cities…..we helped plan hundreds of trees in Breezy point to bring back strong resilient plants to save the earth from wind and ocean…

Perhaps we also need you know I was the first to put solar panels on a downtown building on Main st in So No NewRochelle! At 524 Main…along with fifteen other solar paneled homes…and we have the #greenest recycling store in the county..the RESTORE!  ANY QUESTIONS..GO GREEN EVERYDAY!

Its Monday morning, we are blessed to have helped so many this weekend, as well as having our many volunteers, from #HoraceMann High school to Eastchester high school, Harrison High, and  @westpointcadets all volunteering all over the county.

Tonite at 6pm we have our volunteer orientation helping us to expand our work, we will also be in Peekskill today, and our Restore gets ready for its

Presidents day sale next week..

The crisis of affordable housing is real.  The headline agains reads, “white plains ok luxury apartments….” In lohud.com….the rents haven’t been announced yet.

So much of these policies are bandaids for the mission of having the working people of New York have their opportunities to live decently here…it is a real sham that under the guise of traditional political parties, there are fake news on both sides that they care while no one is addressing the issue of a long term intergenerational new york..

With that in mind we continue, we fight the fight.  Join us, see you tonite at  6pm at our headquarters..

The crisis in NY where people are leaving, is real..our work now more important than ever..and our Faith in Action movement to help end poverty, more vital..

Your response as a blessing, a charitable act, a mitzvah, a Nehemiah builder..a carpenter like St Joseph, can change zombie homes into homes,

Urban blight to urban might…and much more..with hope and homes and hammers, and gardens..

With that in mind, we are blessed, Spring is here, tonite at 6pm volunteer orientation..we continue.

I would be remiss don’t forget about our Sandy families, still families are not back in their homes….from the Hurricane..tonite flooding happens, NYC was underwater, Mamoroneck..be ready,

We need to know that God wants us to be more resilient, to build to grow to help!
