Instead of Whooping it up, my sister said, they built it up..when I told my sister that 14,000 students came and built with us…WPI a university in Worcester, Ma.  where I was born, called yesterday from the Worcester office….we wanted to say hi….we want to come again…with Lucy calling from the staff there..near where I was born on the third floor of a three decker they call it, three apartments in single mundane looking buildings..but it was where my mom carried the coal up the stairs..where my uncle and aunt visited, where a parking lot is now, off of Park Avenue, Charlotte Street..

From Worcester to Westchester ….everyone a home….

Along with that Holy Cross students often come here…to visit, the other area where my father was born, the poor irish at the bottom of the Holy Cross hill..next to the railroad tracks….it doesn’t get any better than that..

 

Each day is a gift being part of Habitat…today I give a tour to Pat, our homes in Yonkers, a charter school where our kids go to school, Enrico Ferme too, as well as our Green Intiatiives….which today I announce THE TREE STREET INITIATIVE!!!!!! GET READY..GREENING THE TREE STREETS..

AMAZING..just like taking back a parking lot where people were born, bring back the tree streets..

An exciting day.. a tour of our wholesale Restore this day, during Earth week..coming together, working hard, helping to do great in all we do..

We are building ahead in ways that are positive, helping to change community after community, helping to make it happen…to change lives to change generations, to change volunteers hearts to teach building and construction and more…

Last nite a shout out to the Liosn club, the whole district as I was honored to speak to 20 R 2 there, to all the clubs from Manhattan, to Eastchester, from New Rochelle to the Bronx and everywhere in between, a great event..tehy may help to sponsor another home, they may help to sponsor a home in Haiti, stay tuned.!!!!!

 

Yesterday the Guzman family stopped to say hi..whose baby was killed in a tough neighborhood..now they have a new home, their son graduated college, a new daughter..a safe habitat neighborhood watched over by angels…God bless them.!!!!!!

A great weekend …never a dull moment, thank you to West Point cadets..for sure..for all we do, we have been blessed

The list includes who helped. Ardsley High school, White Plains, Congregation Emmanuel, Iona Prep, Grenwich High school, Bronxville Reformed Church, and many many more…

With that in mind we are blessed to be on the tail end of finishing homes for our families in Mamoroneck, getting ready for the white plains house..

And a May 5^th..beenfit at td bank north…June 23^rd we honor Pat Lanza and Congresswoman Nita Lowey, along with Mary Bonner and Antera Diaz and others….

A great Earth day///  Thank you Cisco and employees for allowing me to speak to families family day there..

It was a great success..Cisco is coming to join us, helping us to be able to build our Zero Energy Home, helping us to come and raise support in a grant and with their ToughMan competition,a triathalon…..amazing!!! Thank you Bill, Pam and Olof for your leadership in this..

 

Like so often Bill came out with his church..then he came out with his sons boyscouts troop then he got his company involved….Kathy this morning over coffee says Jim, my company wants to get involved, our headquarters in sweden encouraged it..

 

Schools, companies, congregations ..come with us join us change the county and world together!!!!! Its time Thank you

 

As I walked through downtown in Manhattan after speaking, there was a big Earth Day area for booths, in Times Square…many booths about biking, health supplies, healthy living….

Thanks to all who came by and got their CFL bulbs with a purchase at our Restore on Main Street…

 

Last nite I was at a Public hearing on the lawsuit last nite, in Greenburgh…the lawsuit to build all over the county is strong, time to get busy everyone…we can do this..we can lead, we can help to have a vision that we build beautiful integrated affordable homes in every town and city.. we have always taken a lead in this…stay tuned..

A family member cries with the committee last nite..i cant believe we are having a home!!!!!! We all cry, we thank God, we are part of the miracle of habitat…love sweat equity, and more..many volunteers hundreds of hours to make it work.does it get any better, no way…we need more and more celebrations like this.glad to celebrate John and Dave’s and Gary’s work and much more..Marilyn..and all.in Somers..

A great day no question..blessed this Sat..April 17^th to have volunteers in the Restores on Courltandt St in MtVernon and in New Rochelle, volunteers painting in New Rochelle and in Peekskill. Volunteers in Mamoroneck and in Somers..all great thank God!

Off to Albany for part of the day..yesterday we had the speaker Claude Jeudy here from Haiti, speaking at anumber of venues. Thank you Fordham U. making a partnership with us..iona for sponsoring him to speak, Larry Gomez of Trump towers for raising money and all who came, especially mes amis a Leglise De Baptiste dan New Rochelle..

 

Every second is gift.. we are COMMITTED MORE THAN EVER to raise homes in Haiti to raise homes here in Westchester and to make it unacceptable for us to have anyone in substandard housing in this county and in this world.

 

Tomorrow I speak at First Baptist Church in White Plains..Thank you to my old friends, where we held our first meetngs there helping Habitat for Humanity of Westchester get off the ground. The same day we do a Brush with Kindness project in White Plains that day…stay tuned..THE MUSTARD SEED OF FAITH IN ACTION, OF MITZVAH, OF CHRISTIAN CHARITY AND EMPOWERMENT MOVES AHEAD

GOING GREEN IS THE BUZZ..FOR SURE..HEALDINE IN LOHUD AND JOURNAL NEWS COVERS GOING GREEN BECOMES A WAY OF LIFE.

Going green in Habitat has been our underlying color of our”blood” lifeline if you will, how do we save energy so our families can save costs…and the environement..

 

Using Structured Insulated Panels, we have been building with them since 1997..also using energy star labels, and other means..

To say the least. We believe that zero voc paints, recyclable flooring, and healthier products assist. Also we have used solar panels and others methods..as well as the most green thing to do,..teach people how to change their habits…use less energy, less electricity, changing bulbs, and even clothes lines again…not using hot water in the dishwasher or as much with showers…all of it adds up.

 

We also recycle supplies in our homes, going Green with our homes.and our Restore..using supplies that are donated to us..given to us..and helping us..to sell recycled supplies that generate money for affordable homes..

Today I want to thank Congregation Kol Ami for helping, with a brush with kindness project as well as Bronxville high school, Rye High and Hastings high school.

Dr Sawyer is on the radio WVOX about the wall that fell down in Mt Vernon high school…talking about inequitable distribution of funding..

Overtaxing the poor is not the answer..many Mt Vernonites are renters, the system gets affected…today we look to help volunteer to look at helping with some work in one of the schools..we hope to get many students learning about building…

 

Bob Marrone writes inherently wrong…is this prejudice of a community, primarly African American…if 2 plus 2 equals 4 then it must be..

Great people in Mt Vernon, Yonkers, while the school systems around the cities, are thriving, these systems don’t know if they will be surviving,..pray for them.

I do go to the Yonkers School of Excellence today..a charter school, the only one in the county..with a national reading award..

For us, we have Habitat families in those neighborhoods, we want the best school system for our kids…no question..pray for our work to help our neighborhoods collectively…no question…

 

Today we also get ready for our Green week, our great work, our building communities together Green…exciting times no question..

Take nothing for granted if you will.

Again thanks to our White Plains LPC on our work there with a Brush with Kindness program..

Last nite as I was working around the office, two friends from Haiti, anne and her mom came in..Her mom visting with her daughter who goes to Iona states, Jim I had to duck my head, I couldn’t look to see how it would be looking. For sure…this Thursday we have Claude Jeudy, National Director for Habitat of Haiti speaking throughout the county, on the redevelopment..

 

He is a blessed man, and their work amazing…God has blessed us to help..Give a donation today, matched by the Lanza family to help Haiti..

It is doubled for every dollar given and raised..

 

Today we have our Big Tag Sale in Bronxville, as well as volunteers in Yonkers, in Somers and Mamoroneck..we keep on keeping.

KEMBE FIN STAY STRONG HAITI! Lets remember Haiti, lets remember here….

You know parochial people just think about their own little world..others, think of themselves within a broader world…each minute is gift..so changing your own neighborhood, your own world, is important..it is all connected to say the least..

 

We are blessed to make a stronger commitment now to Westchester than ever before!  No Question! We can do this with our sweat equity, our volunteerism, our caring, and our helping…last nite I dropped off donated childrens books from Bronxville to an inner city school in Yonkers,…we will get volunteers in the River, cleaning next weekend for earth week, in Mamoroneck…as well as planting gardens..we will kick off building a new home in White Plains, while a roof goes on one today in Somers….we can change things for the better..with your hands and heart and help…and hammers and hope!

A radio announcer asks me this morning…what would be the place or position on health care, on housing on society…

Certainly a pertinent question..again the fact that habitat welcomes all to make Housing, simple and decent a right for all who work hard for it, with sweat equity, tax paying, and community changing..is amazing for us all to look at..and realize that in thirty short years, we have seen changes that can happen across the country and world…stances politically are one thing, coming out and swinging a hammer, making a donation, putting up sheetrock is another..join us.

Last Nite drove with a family who was in a fire on Elliot Street , to show them our homes and neighborhoods after we donated to their needs…food, supplies from Restore and their new apartment and more…they loved the homes..the father goes..thats where one of the families had their child killed in a tough neighborhood right..i respond yes, we moved them after a shooting into a habitat home..they have a safer life now..

 

Our families kids were playing, riding their bikes..everyone was out on their porches.so nice..we will have our community garden worked on by volunteers and family members there..and God is good..in our neighborhood..and in yours..

 

I dropped the family off in a neighborhood much denser....and I prayed we would help many of those families have a home.

Can I apply for a habitat home..Felix asks, the fire victim family as we drop him off at his temporary apartment. He works hard every day grateful tohave a job….I said to him..send it in Monday…his father is a deacon, he has four kids..he wants the American Dream…
