today we have IBM, Yonkers High School and many more coming out, all working with slight rain, they come with hope..we astart with our Saturday prayer, our workers and you we hope, a prayer for all of us. thank you God for each of you who reads this, for each of your families, for your roof, for your home, for your donations, for your work..for your caring..may you be blessed each minute today..and may our volunteers be blessed and safe today, may resources come abundantly.. may you help those in Haiti suffering, in the poorest country in the hemisphere, may you help Argentina Habitat who we help support, may youhelp the elderly whose brish with kindness project we work on, may you guide the building depts, the municipalities, wthe water depts. the inspectors, the comisioners the politicians, teh donors, allwho make our work go through to build a home..our fellow agencies..dear God in heaven, we take so m uch for granted, we are so grateful for our Jewish and Muslim brothers and sisters, our Christians brothers and sisters, our people who believe in humanity...Amen..from Habitat of Westchester to Hbitat of Tajikistan to Habitat of India to Habitat in Haiti and Georgia and Santa Cruz and all over...jjk

HI FROM HABITAT,

 

Today we do our pickups all over the county.. we need you keep your eyes open as we keep these green businesses going for sure..recycling, picking up, helping to generate sales tax..for the county and saving the environment..no question..we also have a warehouse as well.

 

the economy is tanking, that means people who have known me trying to help people for years, come by the door, Jim ihave no food, can i work.. Jim remember me three years ago, the call comes in...at Covenant House, i have a four month old baby now, can you help me..Jim i was laid off from the florist..can i work a f ew days..thank God for the Restores, we are growing, we need your help..they raise money, they give people supporrt, they hire some of htese people part time..

 

yesterday i had a great meeting..with Ed Brancati...supervisor of Lewisboro, what a great person..he and his team met over us doing affordable housing together..we believe we will be doing Brush with Kindness and

home building there in the future...thanks to Maryann and Connie who help us in that area. Ed had gone to Biloxi Mississippi as well as New Orleans to help build..what a great person he is..what a great mission he is doing..always exciting to see an elected official who understands what the important things are...more to follow..

 

so help us during this time..help us rebuild, and build.. help us recycle and hire, help us to build homes and brainstorm. during this crisis..the Crisis is an Opportunity..God bless you, make a donation today please no matter how small or large..jjk

easy like Sunday morning. the song goes.. but not so easy when we have work to do..the founder of Habitat  Millard Fuller calls me on the way to Atlanta, Jim how are you doing..you are my best buddy can you spread the word...he is on the way to speak at a blitz buildin Shreveport La.  along with that, he prepares for El Salvador..

Jason my right hand, calls me, Jim the high schoolers will be there at the Legion the American Legion shortly, is the door open. Dawn from the Bronxville Reformed Church writes, Jim if you can be at the church by 1115am..you can address the group...the coffee hour...all great..so Great...easy to rest in, some day, but not now.. too much to do...like Millard on the way to the airport, Habitat of Westchester goes seven days a week, no question...we have people like the person with  kids who wrote a letter...Jim please help me have a home.. please...my kids and  I dream of it...or like Jared my high school New Rochelle leader who met me yesterday at 3pm..Jim, how  can we get the club more involved....or Tim from Lincoln High school, Jim can we get i a pick up of furntirue then delivererd..also I am getting my college essay together..what an essay it will be...then Tim Judge is on the way to the Bronx River as we speak to lead our Bike2Build...Tim thank you so much..his whole family..

 

So EASY LIKE SUNDAY MORNING... I wish...say a prayer for us on Sundays Mondays and all the week...what we do is multi layered all days all the time..but when i see Jose today one of the family members and realize it is about him and his family getting in a home...getting away from bad housing and into good..then its all easy..to be motivated to keep going.. I COMMEND BOB WILLUMSTADT WHO GAVE BACK HIS PARACHUTE TO HIS COMPANY AND DID NOT TAKE HIS MONEY AS HE LEFT AIG.. Mr Smith head of the English dept has volunteered with me for years.. a great guy, he leads the kids in service for years....today my heroes were out full swing...painting the american legion, working in slobom, working on siding in rye, finishing homes in yonkers..God is blessing so much for us...we continue to do amazing things..we need your support to continue this vital mission, no question...

Hi from habitat, 

 an interesting finsihjng of our 911 week..with a ceremony at Mr Ponds home, yesterday.  Many came from close and far to pay tribue to this man, who grew up in the family that the mom, lived by..to live is to love, life is to serve not to be served..with that in mind, his brohter from massachusetts, relatives from Denmark and all over came...as well, stories and best Dick Pond stories, from him wearing his t shirts, in the cold, to decorating every holiday, to helping the kids have an after school sports program at his home, that school systems would be jealous over...so Mr Pond may you be in heaven today, decorating the walls of heaven with Beulah your mom and all the rest, all those who came across your Holy Ground of land at the house, to recreate, to celebrate to know they had a father in you, and may you wtih the Heavenly Father now..

Two hundred show up at the armory for ouor 911 service with Veterans…many show up of all backgrounds to support us..to come and join us..to see remember..along with the more than 200 who are volunteering now with us, this week including the remaining of the week IBM, the Scouts, and Byram Hiills..no question.  With that in mind, we have so much to do, so many to help so many homes to help people have families..

 

We are so blessed for sure…..each minute is gift..each day is gift…each second….

today is an interesting day, to say the leat  911...the day of infamy, seven years seem like seven minutes ago it happened..tonite a service athte Armory building, veterans, firefighters..police, volunteers, at a building we helped to fill with 911 relief supplies..filling it all..hundreds of volunteers this week.helping us..hundreds assisting us...this week to build..in memory of those who died...

we Remember in Service everyday. We remember in prayer tonite, join us at 730 at the armory building.last nite i was in Yonkers...on the waterfront, a special place revitalized.. a special place.for us to be able to see life in its aspects of goodness and grace, i saw the 911 lights in the air.. i drove there after...to pray and to recollect...we remember..may they rest in peaced, may the world be in peace today..

as we have our kickoff of our 911 buildathon, we have 70 abc disney employees volunteering with us..then Nationwide, IBM, New Rochelle High School, retirees and more..all this week, with a prayer service at the Armory building this week on 911 at 730pm...ON 911 THE WORLD WAS CHANGED FOREVER THIS 911 COME OUT AND CHANGE THE WORLD..i want to give thanks to Dawn at the Bronxville Reformed church.. wehad a meeting yesterday really about faith and change, and working to make it happen so that we can change communities...with faith and action.. at a time when people are listening and voting, we see that real change does come on the ground in the community, but not with platitudes, but long t erm community commitment...thank you Dawn...also a shout out to our friends of all backgrounds during this week, our Chrisitan Jewish and Muslim friends, who volunteer and help us...time for us to get it right, to change communities and to work together in the one world we all believe in...God bless, jjk

The day begins..hurricane warnings..volunteers helping, board members volunteering too, high school kids helping...restores running...a nyc television fox writer calls..can we do a story on your commitment to youth and how they get involved...the A team rides again..our Builders campers, our youth leaders..and everywhere in between to our retirees..we have so many friends..a prayer for alll of you today...

the Habitat magazine comes..ethiopia, Brazil, Mozambique..Poland, the blessings of the multiplication of home building across the world...I met someone today who was asked to help audit a municipality and much was found..many challenges...he said that is why i like habitat, you do so much with what you do..accountable..volunteers, not about throwing money at projects but solving them...during this year of change, ask not what your community can do for you  but what you can do for your community..right...helpingwith housing...helping with citizens who made up our communities..God bless, jjk

what world we live in ..the deputy mayor of mamorneck is on ch 12 with the Hannah storm, talking about how much almost evacuated...the families in washingtonville and parts of the town..could have been a challenge...

we tend to go from disaster to disaster these days, hurricane to storm..political crisis to town crisis today ...

and just keep plugging..a faith community leader asked, where does the congregation get involved, have we created only ceremonies or cocoons that dont stand in the gap to imrpove situations....there are many great faith communities that get involved, many that get out in communities, many more that need to plant in communitiies..often i feel we are in communtiies that there is a real void, perhaps because of challenges..

unable to solve them...our HIT teams, made up of interfaith reps..Habitat Interfaith Teams..are on the move this fall, helping to get in those communities to help challenge and care about the families and people in those communities...pray for the success of these Interfaith teams, of this county, of getting back to basics of real community... get your congregation involved...God bless, jjk

The Stars, have you looked up lately and seen the stars.. have you been able to do this at all. sometimes i think i have not been able to see the stars or trees for along time..sounds funny, almost surreal..when you work in some areas we work in, i think some kids might never look up in the sky or be able to see the stars..riding home from Troy outside Albany late last nite, i just was able to look up and see the Stars..thank you God..for the Stars, the little dipper, the different constellations...when you live in different areas..sometimes kids never get to live to see the stars..never see many trees like i saw on the road...like John Leguiziamo staes, the comedian..they used to send us inner city kids to summer camp..and then you realized how cruel life was when you realized what you didnt have..so be grateful for seeing the stars, or the trees, and if  you didnt, find time to see them...

can you join us at 1015 am everyday for a small prayer for our families and for our work..for more homes and land, for much more for what we need to do...i appreciate it..and also for our leaders of all kidsn politicians, faith leaders, that we get our society back on track..we need to..jjk

as for me and my house, we will Serve the Lord, no question, we will serve the Lord, serve the one God we believe in to help move ahead...yesterday i was blessed to be able to meet with the Pond family, Mr Ponds niece, and his family will celebrate the life of Mr Pond on September 14th at Mr Ponds home on Mountain Avenue. This great community hero if you google it, you will find that he helped so many, he made his home a place for the community. He opened his yard to kids, from the head of the firefighters union of new rochelle, who grew up there as a kid, to so many other kids who are now adults...a place that latchkey kids of all economic backgrounds had a surrogate father...God bless  you Mr. Pond ..thank you....and to all the volunteers who helped us rehab his home two plus years ago so he could get back in with dignity..

 

Thamk you to Harvey School, who kicked off the three day build with work in Yonkers..i also welcome back all of our high school advisory board members tonite who meet with me at Iona College...all good.

This is the time we explode into action with so much..no question..

Also Harvey presented us with a 15,000 dollar check, with the private school challenge, thank you so much!!!!...

Last our golf commiittee was working hard last nite, over a great event, a great team, who help like Joe French of Sperry van ness, and Anthony Ruggieri of First American Title..dedicate to make this the best one yet...join us in October...at this fun event..

Harvey School challenge...Private schools coming out, giving support..they represent the best with many things.if money means the best..though i dont believe that, but in SERVICE they represent the best for sure...

God is blessings what we are doing no question..when i students future leaders, future people who can lead us in the world start their school year in Service..then they are the best...PRIVATE SCHOOLS  here in westchestser often see kids pays 25,000 dollars a yera or more.. parents want them to have the best, no question..but then when you realize in the neighborhood they worked in...today we had to donate a refrigerator to a school...that the divide is as profound as ever..no questoin..civil rights excludion, racism..economic segreation, all in power here, but today the private school of HARVEY SCHOOL, will be shining as they start their school year with SERVICE!!!!! God bless you!!!

What we have going here is amazing…thank God for all the volunteers and those who give and care..this amazing work we do…last nite I took a classic walk thru manhattan, one of the many places where people of faith and social work background often remember their work and their beginnings, helping the homelelss, the mentally ill, the questions of is a city dead of alive, what could bring it back..tomkins square park..the squatters, the community meetings and community gardens..then reflecting on the changes..wow no homeless. Avalon on the bowery..wait the bowery mission is still there, BRC community access..what kind of living spaces do we make..a city now of more alternative transport, bicyclists at nite with lites. Pedicabs, Nite Tours of tourists..all very interesting to say the least…the greed of the 80s the greed of 2008..the financial crisis then and now..the hope back then, the hope now…are we better..

Gustav missed the city, we think…the levees held. And need to be reinforced again..homes in St. Bernard, and Plaquemanns parish flooded, some breech, what is the breech anyway..the breech was never fixing the levees in the first place, the political games played with levee commissions in the past, the 1927 flooding of Plaquemann, at the loss to poor people like the Upper Ninth or St. Bernard..what breeches exist in our community today..the Breech against the Dream continuing and the reality of smoke and mirrors..the Operative word of Change nationally and the local padding of political machines no matter what party, the need to make society better for the future, versus the breech of after school and present school test scores and programs being cut and going down in a wealthy wealthy county…the shining of the gold of the tabernacles, due to success, versus the tabernacle of the poor apartment dweller working 80 hours, coming for a better life, but not allowing to believe their faith can bring dreams come true…well what questions I have and hopefully I can move towards some positive answers with you today, built on faith with no breech, built on a foundation of not politics but concrete love and action we need to have again…for the future to really CHANGE.
