Mt Vernon as the City of God…its time..I have been honored to work in this great city..helping for the past three weeks in what I call Aggressive Neighborhood Transformation…

With Volunteerism..and targeted street repairs of homes, cleanup, flowers and planters, relationships built…things can transform quickly.

Back in 1989 I made one of my first Community gardens on the lower East Side.. At that time, people would die of Aids on the street..drugs were everywhere, squatters buildings still there,…

With Williams College Alum, a St Josephs of Maine alum…and homeless and my staff..we built a community garden out of rubble…..today is stands..two blocks long..the lower east side is revitalized..Habitat has homes on E. 6th St..an amazing street in History, and life is good.

We make another community garden and park today on the corner of McQuestin and Mt Vernon Ave…with volunteers…we help to work together the great depts of the city..heres who is vital

The Mayor

The City council

The DPW (unsung heroes)

Local businesses.

The Chamber

Local residents…

We are honored to make May Mt Vernon month, regularly…we love MV..the city of God, the city of homes, the city of Love..

Ps we have our great Restore there, on Cortlandt Street..see Restore Westchester FB..This Memorial Day hug a vet too

My name is….

I am a combat war veteran from the US Navy. My colleage Mike  from local 3 Union apprentice explained how you are helping our veterans with obtaining housing. I have a family of four…….It is our dream to become homeowners and give our children what we had growing up. In this economy we are unable to do  this on our own. We were so happy when we heard that you are taking time out to help veterans and their families live the American Dream. I just want o make my family proud, provide for them and give them a better life and I think you can help me do that. I am currently an Apprentice and therefore I am no making a lot of money..which has caused us stress on our family. We have daycare and after school care expenses, as well as monthly bills……I am so grateful for what you are doing …and I want to thank you in advance for reviewing my service…..

Vets families need a home, a job,a life…lets go America, lets go Westchester…donate now http://www.habitatwc.org

A meeting with two Auburn, alum and a senior..who are integrally involved with Auburn Universitys end hunger program..to help those who need to food..we have many food deserts in Westchester county..ones where kids don't get healthy food..

Ok so heres my goal…teach to fish, not give a fish..my dream is to teach everyone to build, ..and everyone to know how to grow their own food..that’s right..the biggest job growth will be Habitats building at its made in America shop…its blue jean insulation factory, its urban farm too, and making agriculture a prime mover of jobs in the neast…we go all over the world teaching others to grow and give micro loans there..kids leave here once a year spending a week away and spend 25,000 dollars, and never give us a donation they want to volunteer..and kids go hungry in the hood or drink soda up the kazoo..wait till the real story comes out on soda..like pink slime..oh vey..

So heres the goal..will you help someone to learn how to fish, to grow food, to build with their hands..

God bless you…Dream  implement and act! And donate

Everyday is gift, for sure..we are blessed to look at what we are doing, helping others, helping the community, we prepare for people helping, for people wanting to give back..like Ben..

Who makes his Bar Mitzvah this weekend..he has helped us many times…or Julie from Blessed Sacrament high school, who has little but collects the most for our work.

With that in mind we build…Blessed Building I guess..we are so grateful!

FW: Mothers Day is Everyday with habitat!

Everyday is Mothers day at Habitat of Westchester!

Often I think of the moms who do the sweat equity, get home to take care of the kids, cook the dinner, go back to work during the day. I remember my dad having to work two jobs…and my mom taking care of us, having to

Help with the kids and also rehab the living room with her own sanding and staining skills….

Moms are Habitat heroes..and we are blessed to have Melissa and Sheila and Antera and Laura and all the moms take care of their children with pride with love and with hope.

Just recently one of our applicants, was a mom who did a tour in iraq, she is applying with her husband for her first home with Habitat in  our program to help get Vets Habitat homes here!

So hug your mom, love her, remember her, pray for her, and know that everyday is Mothers day at Habitat of Westchester.  We appreciate your donation in honor of our moms, in honor of yours, and  an email thank you Moms card will be sent along with a Mothers day card from Habitat.

God bless. Every second is gift!
