along with that a shout out to Lincoln High school art students who will design our storefront...who will help us to make our Riverdale site a site for welcoming fun artistic and great....exciting...

from Yonkiers to Katonah Habitats Excitement is still building.....and today we have Goldman Sachs out to work with us in a big way, to work on our homes on Purser PLace...thank you so much....

Thomas Paine, the author of the American Revolution....a hero for our times?  why not..Common sense seems to be something wehave lost so much..but the spirit of returning to common sense is just waiting for us to bring it out, for God to bless us with us..for us to realize community is vital, affordable homes a necessity, and getting out of cars and into the streets, helping one another the spirit of life.....so important..so vital...

Easy like Sunday morning..getting up people going to church or family outings...life is good and blessed...be a dreamer, if you can and then implement your dreams..be an American Dreamer, we can do this..join us to envision communities, Green with all types of affordability creative and more....dreams sometimes are built upon Common Sense ideas...so dont laugh off being a dreamer as being impractical..nor is creativity impractical...so dream with us this summer for your own community, what creative affordable ownership opportunities would be available....

 

I dream all of our veterans will have aplace to stay when they return from Iraq, that all veterans arent cast aside into hospitals that are remote...because they might be disabled..but really I dream of having Veterans offices on Main Streets in every town and city, as well as condos they can live and afford themselves in...working towards this end...how quickly we forget sometimes, and downgrade the role of the soldier, the person in the Bible who had the most faith, the centurion..how quickly we cast aside their needs, when we know that they might need help when they return, we only needed them to protect us..we dont want to help them after do we?  of course we do? Be a dreamer..new proposals are coming out of this office in honor of the fourth of July, so stay tuned...more to follow..

 

May allyour dreams be blessed ones, may this country and all countries be blessed and may all go to bed at night in a simple decent blessed home....with gratitude to our veterans, my uncles who fought in anzio and the European front during wwII, and to my father in heaven.,...for his love and his guidance with my mom, this Memorial Day weekend..jjk

an amazing day...Friday here in new rochelle, ch 2 does a great job on covering our restores...a couple comes in at 530, can you help us with our home being rehabbed...another call from a flood victim, who is knocking their home with sba loan to rebuild so their handicapped daughter can have a decent place again..

Gods mixing of experiences in this world, in this life, in this building, are always a story to me..and hopefully a prayer and call for you to help the many who cross our doors, not for me, but for the sake of helping alleviate pain...a world to change...a world to lead others in service..with graittude for having the knowledge that we can still change and act in the right direction...God bless, join us....jjk

We say Choose life in the book of Deuteronomy...Imagine if each day we lived our lives to the very fullest...to the fullest we could..so we are all a blessing for each person we meet..I believe God wants that for all of us, no matter who we are..he wants us to live right, eat healthy, be happy, serve one another and live in harmony....ok ideal, but not impossible...try choosing life tomorrow, keep your head up instead of down..and help be a blessing to each person..

 

We are so blessed in habitat because our very mission oozes of that..daily trying to be happy, help serve one another...building homes, building lives building community..no question..

 

we do this with vigor expectation and hope..

today an deputy mayor called me, Jim I want you to build homes for volunteer firefighters in our town, will you come next week....

another call about a piece of land...and a building..another about helping us or volunteering..another about a family thanking us for helping another family...the lists and stories go on and on....and then we see miromar..the devastation..the tragedy, the need for us to respond even if we are on the other side of the globe...what a world, but there is hope there is Life and choose it, and give it and share it....

 

Green...this week is DONT BUY GAS DAY ON MAY 15TH, AND NATIONAL BIKE TO WORK DAY ON MAY 16TH, JOIN US IN THIS VITAL ENDEAVOR...

Choose Life again. in Deuteronomy, no question..let us hope lives will be saved today in China..

as i walk down the streets shocked over what i take for granted again..choose life..yet in China we see such devastation..one child lost there means a whole family lost....imagine losing your child..i just called my two kids on the way to high school..love you, be blessed do well...today many wake up without their children..

in some cities and here in Westchester many wake up in tough living conditions, no clean apartment, shootings outside, no books at the school..yesterday we delivered a refrigerator we got donated to the teachers lounge of a school in our neighborhood that didn't have enough money for the teachers to have a refrigerator..yet others have fancy lounges fancy football clothes, best gyms, healthiest foods..our divide continues...

Hats off to a deputy mayor who called me yesterday..remember Jim we showed you two years ago some properties or some input you could give us..well the properties are free and clear, willyou come to a meeting next week to give us some ideas on what you can do...what a blessing...these are the calls I know are God sent..

Choose Life, take nothing for granted, work towards others having homes, even you maybe, and lets make today better. jjk

The psalmist writes, makes a joyful noise unto the Lord all ye lands...may we make a joyful noise today for all our blessings..often we take so  much for granted...from utilizing restrooms to watching television to the best of food...but so many have so little including in the county here, versus others..let us make a joyful noise and give gratefully in helping others..

 

Today I am honored we have the West Point Cadets out working with us, on a new major brush with kindness project...in Greenburgh around the corner from where we rehabbed a crack house that now one of our families lives in. what a blessing...we also work on building in yonkers with the Junior League helping out...we are on finishing touches in the area of our new rochellehomes as well.

 

Yesterday i was excited to look at the building on Main Street that inlcudes the possiblity of doing workforce condos, with two commercial rentals below, stay tuned...

 

in all we do and say let us give thanks!

This morning as i took my early morning prayer walk...important for all of us to start to pray more, and exercise more.....in a society that is obese...i also walk with a sense of history..seeing George M Cohan walking down main STreet..Norman Rockwell, daughters of the American Revolution, Ozzie Davis..Lou Gehrig...like walking the streets of philly or boston, or yonkers, or white plains where the battle of white plains was...or Governor Malcolm Wilson....

remember we are here for a short time, and our actions are vital, important and what we leave behind for the future in our actions are important...vitally..so realize you are a blessing today, you can help and your actions are vital to the success of the future generations....

on that note...we hope in Habitat to have a great successful event at the Top of the Avalon building tonite..

reminding people that this city, New Rochelle, is one which was founded on the Hugenots, and on freedom to live with dignity and a home...editorials in the paper today against a big developer cry out that he is not a god..someone who knocked out 50 low income apartments here in New Rochelle, that have layed empty now for five years, like Ossining and the catskills...we have wiped out much of our history and low income housing...though for me I would like to see those empty apartments made into condos or coops for families to create weatlh for college, wealth for future generations, wealth for the future...stay tuned!!!

I hope to begin a separate email newsletter called COMMON SENSE ii...living in a city that was predicated upon great COMMON SENSE REVOLUTIONARY INSPIRATION AGAINST TAXATION AND THE KING..we have remember that we can do the same here, not thru heavy funded politics and backdoor development but a process of the people having rights again..and having the opportunity for the American Dream..everything from which this country was founded upon...

I spoke up recently and was quoted in the news about fighting for rights when a local politician cast under why speak up for the people who were hurt..very disheartening though i was proud i had no political bosses to keep my voice quiet...

we need COMMON SENSE NOW..common sense for real community..common sense for the future of our city county and country and world..

Indiana, North Carolina, Burma. new rochelle, yonkers..where do we stand today in our world today..where do we stand with our God in our work and action....we have so much to do, to celebrate to love life with and make our world better...

Last nite I attended a business expo event, again thank you to Martin Ball of our LPC team in yonkers...businesses along with elected officials and commissioners coming out to join us...a great thing to meet so many successful people in a city of vision and excitement ...today the expo and events continue so much to see happen for a city with a vision...every communtiy and city and town needs to have a vision..

just got off this phone this early morning with people from Lewisboro, and one of the attendees last nite lived in Armonk...we need to have people in those areas have a vision that affordable homes like Yonkers and other communities need to be part of the fabric for the future..no question..if that happens..we will have county that embraces the american dream...in Armonk a multi million dollar fire house was built but no affordable homes...in Lewisboro, teachers cant live there, and people travel to parts of ct because they cant live there....with gas prices up hardships continue for the workforce..

Time to change...everyone says in the elections, time to really change here in Westchester...

I will be on at 820 this morning again, discussing our event May 8th at the Top of the Avalon building...

a taste of So No New Ro...our shirts are in..and we will be excitingly moving ahead with our Sustainable community model...

I introduced wind energy into our downtown and a visit to our sites...wind turbines are possible

to utilize in our communities here, it is like introducing the first automobile...no one was sure it would work, but then everyone loved it.. we have to change our behaviors now...in our world and in our work..no queston..

lets introduce solar and wind energy now, lets walk more and lets save our world, with having communities with real affordable ownership opportunities for all.

a great day..two campaigns crashing, people voting, money being spent...

county legislators reject a raise...and habitat continues...also what about the cyclone that happened in Burma..here we have a beautiful day, but there, 10,000 died in one town..why we might ask so many die and we are doing great...we must see how we can respond..

also cars drive by us in large number, polluting our lungs..while we walk less as well..

we have to see how we can change our world..

how can we change our communties from here to that world...we need to act...

Hi to all,

a Saturday morning..things are moving ahead, God is good, volunteers needed all over the county to assist in so many things, no question..

with that in mind, we have volunteers on our sites in our Restores, in our work we are doing.

we need to continue to include more and more people in our work that is vital for not onlyour families but for the opportunity to volunteer..not always an easy endeavor..training, trusting and treating others with respect is vital in our success as so much we do includes the spirit of volunteerism...the essence of giving back of ones time and support...

as we finish New Rochelle homes today I am reminded by the many who have put their sweat equity into the homes,the many who put up sheetrock, painted, dug dirt, moved rocks, put up siding and porches, the many who helped so much.

 

and then in Yonkers...so many need our help..so many want homes..so many have volunteered like the fireighters union in memory of Kevin Deane, who used to work on our sites at Willow, or the teachers who came out and helped us, or the students who join us..so many assist us it is amazing..

with that in mind we invite you like others in Rye and Bedford and Mt Vernon and Mt Kiscko who help us time and time again....the spirit of volunteerism is alive and well in HFHW, and we are so grateful for all you do..

Cradle to Cradle..the sounds or recession are a call to change right..saving, thinkin gdifferently helping to get back to basics...with that in mind.. wehave so much to do, so much to accomplish, but EVERYDAY IS A BLESSING...no question..absolutely, we have so much to be thankful for...we have food, we have ability to walk we have the abiility to help each other...

so heres to many blessings for you today, for all you do, for the hope of the future..

this event was one which went well, which was on the beautiful husband, and people from PC and C and Marathon builders, Benchmark Title, NY Title and many others were there, along with Greg Ball Assemblyman...

this event continues with our 20th anniversary tour one which celebrates our success and challenges us into the future..no question...we have a bright future, with people like Lincoln High School Tim and Margaret Fraina who were there last nite, who told of how three Lincoln High school families have received homes....how a student cried on Willow which led to everyone crying, when she said, I helped to build that home and everyday i know when i go to school I helped to build someoone a new life..Profound.>>>>>>

like our high schools who came together last nite at Iona college in our tenth year of high school advisory meetings.,.. God bless you all for inspiriing me and all at Habitat!!!!! we are not in a Recession, we are in a Great Celebration of life and the future with these people....The excitement is Still Building!!!!!!!

To thee we lift up our eyes o Lord...and give thanks!!!! Glorious things are spoken of these o city of God Selah...

what cities of God are we creating..the Psalmist gives Praise to the God that protects us, loves us helps us..

what communities are we creating in Westchester and the world.,.gas prices going up...to me are not a bad thing, but a great thing to help us curb back our obscene driving and not enough walking, bking or alternative transportation..

Today I am blessed to know my fellow directors are meeting in my old habitat board, which I was on 20 years ago, Paterson Habitat..Silk City...but during lunch my commitment to creating New Rochelle a sustainable community continues with our So No New Ro Habitat luncheon..one which is gathering businesses and residents alike, joining together to make this area green, walkable, scenic, historic and engaged for people to be proud of for the future...we hope to incorporate wind and solar energy into our designs and some rooftop gardens,w hile we also hope to buy a building..

 

with that in mind, we are looking to be able to change the face of Westchester with Gods help...and yours....tonite at x20 we have the event for the Yonkers projects..and we prepare for our So No New Ro benefit for Habitat...so we can engage more people in our important work...

it is exciting times for us..during the next month, i ask you to sacrifice, curb back, support and help us change communities together to make cities of God for all denominations across Westchester.. God bless, jjk
