It seems like things become interesting..

The lateness of money by the federal govt for Sandy, causes late money distributed for things that have already been done

The lack of knowledge of some to decide what to use it for..means quick decisions by many… a sad thing.

We are like the turtle we move ahead… and every day is like six months in sandy ville..help us if you can.

In Westchester our other hurricane is denial and sophisiticated prejudice, no questions. By all parties..

Its time to change things folks..we have too..

Also reconstruction..this is an amazing time in history.. we are at one of the most exciting times to change the way we live.

To reconstruct this the country green, to help affordable home ownership become a reality..to make it green and attractive and then

To make sure the whole community is reconstructed in a positive way..to that end we work daily…don’t use asphalt, use pervious pavers for

Driveways.

Use hot water solar heating systems…using systems that use less water..

Ownership Ownership Ownership..ownership empowers lives, communities, schools, children, neighborhoods, creates leaders, depletes crime and increases tax bases…

Our interest free mortgages bar none create an opportunity for families tohave  their dream. Their dream here and across the world…Martin Luther King stated, we have a dream..our dream in Habitat has created us to be the sixth largest builder in the country, fourteenth in the world…

I have witnessed drugs and substandard housing change..i have seen people take pride in neighborhoods that once  had none..its all about creating that opportunity.

Even in Sandy affected areas…how to we recreate green healthy ownership, rebuilding, opportunities so people are not burdened by rebuilds…but proud to have lived in their intergenerational neighborhoods again…Some of the old Sandy affected areas, were run by agencies that make millions, but did not lift any families out of wealth….its not the 1950s, but 2012..our archaic models need to change..its time…May God bless you and yours…

Trauma Stewardship…an everday guide to caring for self while caring for others.

Is vital , by Lara Van Lipsky and Connie Burk..gives some good insights for those of us in the Sandy fields..helping and being helped….

Some days when I arrive late, I forgot what street lights looked like on..as for months lights were off in the Rockaways….It was not until last week, after months and months, a katrina worker wrote..that she felt normal again…

Its like an earthquake hit you inside…because one side of the earthquake, or hurricane in this case stayed ok..parts of new York..while thousands were wiped out…and daily and nightly one remembers that..

Support one another, pray, walk, do something different..we are here for the long haul folks…to get families in, and to rebuild correctly. God bless you!

Two extremes…

In many counties today after Sandy..and a snow storm..we see thousands who cant get back into their homes..thirty miles away..a county whose headline today is about a court monitor on affordable housing

Wants designers and architects to try to figure out how to create affordable homes…a concept..i wonder who designed the first Homesteaders homes..or the architect who first went to broad channel, or

The architect for Leavittown…the shift to real estate as something to be sold and resold, rather than to be lived in and passed onto your next generation..has shifted in places like New York. That’s why people will make anything into

Affordable places to live…summer bungalows not made for year long housing..places where tents onces stood and coops are there…it just seems we have had no real affordable housing ownership policy…in the NY area and maybe the country..this has to change..

Stay tuned..

Our Lpc meeting today in Yonkers..we love Yonkers..

So many beat up on the city, we think it has it going on…first the people..so many people love Yonkers, they attend schools, like Riverside and School 23 andYonkers Charter and Saunders…they work in Kawasaki and the city, and Choice Lumber, and so many places..they go to the waterfront, now where the saw mill river was opened up..and attend parades and music, and love the Hudson.

We have built more than 50 projects there, new homes, rehabbed homes, community gardens and much more..

Thanks to Mayor Mike, the city council and all the team..and all the department heads..like DPW and Buildings..planning and Engineering..we take it all for granted..Habitat of Westchester doesn’t ..thank you..

Meetings with Fema..they get blamed for everything..they are a govt flood insurance program that does not cover everything…no question.  They cannot.

They have to be able to try to spread out a national average of help..while dealing with disaster after disaster. That is where we come in.

Our helping families to rebuild..not at high ny contractor prices, but at donation prices, volunteer help. Thousands of dollars and millions of support…to augment what they are

Trying to do..not an exact science..but with your help we can get there, we can do more and more and more…we have to get families back in..it is not an option…take no prisoners,

Beat Sandy away..lets go Ny lets go!

Thanks to the Irish Gaelic Hurling society, Aer Lingus and the many who come to help us from Ireland these next three days..carpenters brought over…we will renovate our command center, help to finish a building and bring hope.

With that in mind…just how bad is it still…

The beams have cracked on major structures..water sill does not run in breezy, people come in to work with us, hoping..can you fix my moms house…or someone says.i just came back to bury my mom…she died  as a result of Sandy..

Pneumonia, cold weather, mold, stress have caused many many secondary Sandy deaths..thats why it is imperative for us to work so hard…to be able to help to be able to reach out, to build, to finish a home..

We need you know….from here to Sandy and back we need you..in Yonkers, in Mt Vernon, and beyond…we need you…thank you so much.. for all you do..

We are excited about our work in mt Vernon..our Made in America  shop at 58 mt Vernon avenue..we are excited about our two new homes, next to our four on Purser..we are excited about the spring about to spring, about Boston college, and St Josephs and New Canaan Congregation church…and all our partners..

May God bless you…in all you do..
