Day of Days, a Friday..but a blessed Friday..the blessings of Friday is that for many the end of the week, for us it begins our building weekend!  Seven days a week, the Holy Spirit, the Ruah (Hebrew) blesses us in our work….people call from churches synagogues, companies, veterans group, to come by, to support us…college students come in on Friday from two colleges today, Monroe and Domincan, both eager to help change the world.. a neighborhood with their sweat equity.

We are moving ahead, with strength, reserve, focus to change the face of NY, from Sandy relief to Westchester….Affordable ownership housing is Godly, biblical, mitzvah in origin, and vital for economic success of NY State, no question.

With that in mind, our week begins..on Saturday, sounds funny right…God bless us, you and yours..join us..donate today

Our ride, thirty plus miles, is nice when no traffic..reflection, prayer, K Love, thinking of what #Sandy families still need help. Channel View High school comes out again today..the first habitat club I started in the Rockaways…amazing..kids helping to rebuild their community..

Back in Yonkers, we work on our Vets homes…for Mike and Nikki, off and running looks good, we will be making it happen, moving them in late April or May…they fought overseas for us, in Iraq, we fight on the ground with boots on..construction boots, to get them in their new home,….

Another blessed Habitat Saturday….hello what are you waiting for ..join us!

Christ Community Church, our command center in Breezy..for months no heat, no showers, just a place to be, gutted walls, signing up hundreds for #Sandyrelief help, it has been a beacon of light of us, for volunteers, for families, for the church itself.

I remember bringing the Menorah in for the IsraelAid group who helped us during eight weeks or so of relief, my brothers from Israel and I worked together,a great blessing helping people in disaster relief.

Then we had groups from SAI who came with hundreds to Fordham University to groups that were new religions, or non denominational, like I had never heard.  Companies, people with no faith, all came to help….we still NEED YOUR HELP!  The winter was harsh for rebuilding no question. Our volunteer base went down..and donations went down….yet many are not back in their homes from Sandy relief…Today I give hats off to CCC and all the groups that came, from Forest Labs and Bank of America to Goldman to Sai to St Bonaventures, to Channel View High, to SAR and Bnai Akivah, the disaster of Sandy brought us together like none other……except for

Our day to day work in the Theology of the Hammer….this profound simple phrase has impacted the world…no Protestants No JewsNo Catholics No Muslims No hindus, just all One in the Same when we hold hammers together on sites.  The one God sees us all together….like yesterday on site…andtoday.   Mike and Nikki two Marines with their volunteer vets group helped work with French American School, Briarcliff High, Relig,. And indidivuals like Max and Leanne and Chuck who all made up the mosaic quilt of sheetrocking walls of love on homes.

What an amaing thing to happen,. No question. It is what God wants to happen…to see us all working together in the theology of the hammer…so imagine if all the churches this Sunday, all the syngagoues, all the temples and congregations went out this afternoon to build on homes…stay tuned…the Theology of the Hammer is growing not in religious books, but on Sandy homes and Vets homes and seniors homes and affordable homes…and in your heart and mine. God bless you!

The green seasonis coming…Gardens gardens gardens..get out the in the garden, start one..

Learn how to garden this season..go Gray to Green…do it..get rid of concrete, get out of the car, get away from the computer and help us in

Our community gardens….the earth depends on it.

We have at least ten community gardens, in New Rochelle, Mt Vernon and Yonkers…Exciting!

Because along with our homes, most urban neighborhoods have not had much green space. I remember my first community garden on the lower e side, on E 10th and Avenue C.  Now it is two blocks..we started with my staff…homeless people and Williams College Alumni..

Now it has transformed the lower  east side.

Get your garden club out. Get out in the dirt, join us in our Neighborhood Revitalization efforts..transform the communities from gray to Green! God bless you!

St Patricks Day 2014…we sponsored wvox’s st pats day.  An honor..

Some people think that St Pats is about drinking../ for me it is not about drinking at all, it is about Faith…some fun, and Faith in Action.

Memories of my grandfather, who worked the sewers, in Massachusetts, lived in his first home, next to the railroad tracks, the poor Irish..

His kids all struggling, worked two jobs, never went to college, but made it…my dad, a court officer with my mom. Even though my dad died on my 16th birthday..he left an impression of love and service.. of pride and helping…

To that end, we remember those in the Rockaways, in Hurricane Sandy areas, in Breezy Point…those still affected by Sandy, or all backgrounds.

So honored to have met the head of Ireland, and the Prime Minister and consulate while being there. They helped us with toys for kids, and with a training program for locals there…amazing!

So heres to Faith in action..that the color of green brings hope to you in your life, be your Irish or not Irish. To that end we continue…happy St Patricks Day!

A shout out to all..this coming weekend..we salute St Josephs of Maine and Penn State college for leaving…today.

A world to change, no question…they came in and worked hard.  Insulating the vets homes, and today, they also go ahead into help a disabled persons apt, painting it all before she comes in,a big surprise…amazing…thef future is bright because of the youth, and the Ardsley kids and Hastings High leaders, brought food to the college kids.  We have so many who help us.  Also to our older youth, our HOPES group retirees who helped us, we have a once a month lunch for them, celebrating their lives.

With that in mind, we are blessed to continue, all ages, all helpers from cradle to grave a simple decent home!

RECYCLE RECYCLE REUSE REUSE REDUCE REDUCE  RESTORE RESTORE….

All of these are amazing things that Habitat of Westchester is part of.  We have been blessed to be able to help so many with your donation of Cars for Homes..where cars are recycled, and the money we use them for goes to our building and rebuilding!

Also on top fo that our RESTORES bar none, save tons upon tons of things that are perfectly new or slighltly used and we resell them so people get great buys, and we generate money for homes, jobs for vets, and sales tax for the local communities..amazing!

With that in mind visit our Restores today in New Rochelle and in Mt Vernon   Come see us as we rebuild homes across the county and the country and the world.

We have also reused materials and things we salvaged in Sandy to help other Sandy families get back in their homes…Amazing…

And we use RECYCLED BLUE JEANS IN ALL WE DO…+

We also tithe, what do to help build homes in third worlds. SUPPORT US ..Go Green in 2014!

The article today states more than 50 per cent of housing unaffordable..no question. With that in  mind, our families get an interest free mortgage, no down payment and often pay less than a two bedroom apt, to own a home, ..amazng.  with that in mind, we have plenty going on..we need to build all over the county..need to help people live decently.

There are many people who are suffering, many who cant live here, many who cant pay their taxes and survive..its time to change it.

Lets go Ny lets go!

In our efforts to lead in revitalization,we look at things like how is the education quality for our kids in the hood, how is it for our scholars..

How is it for future leaders of America. We look at green space, can kids have healthy foods, or is it a food desert…where only bodegas abount with sodas and sugar …we then look grow food….and what job opportunities exist..not just a nice home…but what exists to help families…have a livelihood.\

In a number of areas, a couple of things.   Carsand roads, rip thru the neighborhoods…be in Main St in SoNo New Rochelle, be it in Mtvernon avenue, be it on Ashburton..(which has now been slowed, thanks to our work with the city)  just think how much land is for concrete and cars, not kids and caring…usually in low income areas.  For instance in the S. Bronx, the Bruckner ripped thru thes Bronx and now the worst asthma in the country.  Robert Moses loved cars and highways but not always the people he ripped thru their neighborhoods with…too much.

Its time, we can reverse anything if we desire..Join this vital mission, to take it back…be onour Local Project Committees..help plan out the future to be greener healthier, and positive,…everywhere, its time. God bless you!

The move for us to see how we can change the county, rebuild it from the bottom up..is vital for its success.  We are blessed to know that

Our work will change lives and neighborhoods. We will create jobs, and hope. We will green lots for food for kids, and help kids to build the walls that go up in the neighborhoods.  We will engage seniors who retire only in name to help us rebuild, while other seniors will have help in rebuilding their homes.  We will engage all faiths to be part of this vital mission, as we are all Sons of Abraham, who work in love, in Lent, in mitvah in hope to help all live simply….wont you join us.

And we continue to help in Haiti, in the third world….did you know we tithe overseas as well to homes there…God has blessed us in this ministry.   Join us in this journey….in Creole they say Kembe Fem…stay strong……Stay strong, live long and help us rebuild!

New friends..new family…Sandy members, fire victims…a  crisis really brings people together.. three people contact  me this morning…Jim I have this..Jim can you help me with this, Jim its my birthday…an honor to be part of the #Sandy family.  So many still not in their homes.  Yesterday Alba came in from a fire that happened about  a month ago, Jim can I use the fax and phone.  She has none, no regular place to call her home.  Nomads in New York..is that appropriate, those who suffered in their lives in their loss from Sandy and from fire, and disaster.

A reporter calls me yesterday..Jim  tell me about the floods, are they fixed…an  honor to be asked..i think of the families who suffered with us, who needed our help.  We are blessed to be able to help, to be able to be there…we have been there, we will continue..after all …we are family!

We have to do it …if not NOW..when..ACT with  us NOW! For more info email  relief@habitatwc.org
