A person on the street says thank you! Volunteers help me clean up the neighborhood..needles knives and nothing worthy of writing more about..only the fact that people driving thru the neighborhood, often throw garbage out at “those” people…no  garbage cans, quite a delinquency…but we are there..

Heres what there wasn’t and what is now…

No garbage cans..Habitat volunteers, and cans

No gardens, now Five Habitat community gardens

No playground…habitat is creating one.

Broken windows…Habitat has fixed ten homes in this nieghobhrood

No clean parks..habitat is creating the Yonkers hiline

No neighborhood pride…renamed SWASH..southwest Ashburton..are you SWASHY?

Rampant foreclosures….HABITAT IS BUYING EMPTY HOMES FOR VETS AND FAMILIES

Join us in this neighoborhood revitalization effort..change lives for ever!!!!!

A family comes in…they lost their daughter in a violent shooting..in a tough neighborhood…shot, three years old, ten years ago at least..now their two sons and new daughter, all doing great THANK GOD..with their dad..come in to visit…their new habitat home, still beautiful…their kids graduated college, their sons taller than me…I am studying one son says…God is so good to us..we were remembering how we fought to get the land..and brought hundreds to city hall so habitat could win the vote..one city councilor no longer there was misinformed..tried to stop  us..the community knew were there for the right. Nine homes now stand there, the angels watch over..the kids are growing, the family is safe..love is there..

Thank you God..so much for everything!!!!!!!!

The elves are rising..working, diligently, in the Restores…on the sites..in the air, on the ground…(on the roof)..helping us to be able to move ahead…

To be able to build into the future..to be able to celebrate holidays for families….we had our holiday family dinner at New Rochelle High school…our habitat high school elves..were working hard, feeding our families…many families..like Africo who lost his wife this year, but has six kids..like Mtiou who is on the team…with her family..like Sheila who is waiting to move into the zero energy home..like Sherlyne who waits to get into home..

We are moving ahead with your help..we will get there, we need your help..to help finish the homes..with support..a donation is needed now more than ever..

Seeing Natalie, now working full time, with two great kids..with her mom..who comes in..who celebrates their home, they started to build..when Natalie was ten years old…living there for years…what a blessing…

Or like the M family…who wishes to remain anonymous, who brought their kids..who love their home in a city we love here in New Rochelle..

Like Natalia whose kids are getting big..who are doing great in school….in Mt Vernon…like Mr Rubins and Ms Lastarita who help us so much..

To this end the cafeteria was filled with Habitat families..and habitat high school volunteers and your heart with your donation that made it happen…God bless you!!!!!

Has technology taken you away from community..me..as I blog here…do we talk to one another in real person, or on computers..one of the beauties of habitat is we are real..we are real every volunteer day, every site, every time we get out and build and rebuild community today….today Santas elves were at work..from Holy Name church to Spectra financial and Bregal, to Horace Mann and Good counsel, to Grenwich from individuals like Alex and Joseph to others, we are real…

To that end we continue, we work, we help , we build…homes, communities together. Grenwich High with people in the neighborhood and the Johnsons, worked on their home and in Santas workshop today..where we also donated coats, new to families in the neighborhood…a world of community in one block..of Jewish, Christian Muslim, all working together..all helping..and no faiths too…making it better..not with a computer, but with love, with hands, with sweat with using ten digits for building loves and gardens and workshops, and hoods oflove..can you join me a little time off the computer to build love in the hood, please…….

Blessings in all you do today..we wish that for you..each and everyone of you….and we wish it for our families..those in need of our support..of our work, of our love in the mortar joints for families we build for and with…for Habitat International and all our partners and donors.

There is so much that goes into our work…like donated materials..working with municipalities, getting land, asking for support, coordinating groups coming in.

Today we welcome Mike Garvey an Americorp Staff who will assist us in our work with BRUSH WITH KINDNESS..projects. This vital program has quadrupled since we started..reaching out to Vets and Seniors..helping them to grow, helping them to make it.

So for all who help us ..from volunteering one day, to sending a donation, to helping Seniors and Vets..we say thank you!!!! And God bless you

Urban farming..why are we learning about urban farming in habitat..first we all should learn about it..the food needs we have, the chemicals used on food, the limited number of people growing food, the need for healthy food..all important. Where we build there are often food deserts..no supermarkets..thats right..can you believe it.

We made five community gardens in our neighborhood where we build.  we help to clean lots, we help to make playgrounds..because you cant build a nice house in a substandard neighborhood.

With that in mind we move ahead, changing neighborhoods, changing lives together…just the beginning..
