NYSERDA..what is this..what can it do for us..how can we be involved with a great arm of the government..NYSERDA has been on the cutting edge of introducing info to the public on a number of things..from helping ith our Energy Star rated homes to that of assisting with helping families get energy efficient appliances. To assisting with helping to weatherize homes…I will be meeting with them in Albany today proudly to be able to meet with them to discuss how since 1997 we have utilizing green efficient products and building styles, as well as how we will be able to move ahead in helping others in our neighborhoods, become a Green neighborhood..stay tuned more to follow..

Yesterday ch 12 news did a story on us which I am grateful on…about our work with Credit Suisse, our work with volunteers during tough economic times, and our work on getting people back into their homes.  We have many companies starting to call us now gratefully and look forward to being with many during these interesting economic times..most necessary.

A special shout out to Hank  Hyatt a good friend, who has been helping with getting his employees from Credit Suisse out and doing a great job at it..

He has been assisting bringing groups out, and also helping to come out with his own family…Leaders like Hank cant be hilited enough in our world, who care not only for a day, but regularly as they lead others to help in our important mission…Thanks Hank…

 

It was a beautiful building day and a shout  out also to our strong high school group…JFK, who came to the Mt Vernon YMCA..and helped paint a shelter for homeless men..SROS there..The high schools are our future, and inspire me daily..Take Jared my leader from New Rochelle High School, or Jessica, from New Rochelle, and Tim from Lincoln..both work hard, are involved with many many different activities, but find time to come and visit and brainstorm with me about how we can get the youth more involved..they bring many out to our sites and Restores all the time, a great Blesing..thank you …

today credit suisse and jfk high school are on the sites..working hard, a great day for them..last nite i was in manhattan with my son for a periof of time....anothe person calls this morning ..i want to help with a birthday party for my husband. on site can we do this ...can we help out with a party in june for him with 40 people on site..what a great gift, giving back..

then yesterday a call from a Christian group.. are we ready for Young Life to come out in April, also my church wants to go to New Orleans possibly, can we go...in the summer...to help finish a home..in this case Sharon Carews home..

then the soccer association calls, can we come out and join you on site to build...all good..more and more coming out to help during this important time. .no question...no question at all.

we are so grateful to God...for all of you helping..time to get it right, time to make it work so people can have homes...

also we are in the beginnings of making  a strong volunteer construction school..one of my dreams with underwriting..stay tuned for more.. may God bless you with a great day, hold you and keep you, surround you with angels, and of course guide you more and more to our mission...to help all have a simple decent hom, to help others be saved from foreclosure, and to help be a blessing..

A great Mardi Gras!!!!!! many raised support, came and helped, won raffle tickets, and learned that helping to rebuild an American City is an important endeavor to say the least..New Orleans...but now what about back here in New York, where do we go from here, what about our Hurricane...will the market crash, can we buld..can we help save people from being foreclosed for the future...save them from losing their homes.

 

We believe this is the best time we will have to assist people getting back on their feet, assisting them in making it and moving into the future..saving homes from foreclosure, changing families lives..

so thank you all who helped with our 3rd Annual Mardi Gras for Katrina families...the committe is forming for next year..

 

Now the committe for our work here begins, for what we need to be doing, to move ahead...we will succeed..

Lets talk about getting our family involved, a family comes in and states..lets help them participate..we want to … a great family comes in and states, we want to get involved…that is following three teenagers including my son, stopping to get something to eat after moving furniture for the Restore…as well as two high school groups Horace Mann and IonaPrep along with Sis and with Jay and Chuck and the gang helping..all so good..

Then theres mardi gras…great Jazz last nite at our 591 Main Street location, raising money for our families…raising money for Sharon Carew and her troops…her son Devante and mom..so many want to help…

I am so blessed..then Mary and Tom continue tohelp and CC …we are are made up of so many hands and hearts they would stretch to Alaska…when are you getting involved/  Laissez Bontemps roulette….come to Harley Davidson tonite and spend some money for a Casino nite…all good..

And tomorrow on Sunday there is more..

Global minisries announces one of the most Illustrious ministers death millard Fuller…what a tribute..daily five to ten bulletin announcements come across the board..founder passes..about millards life.. but his life lives on in Faith and Action…yesterday I was honored to meet with Mayor Pilla of Portchester.. a humble person of faith and action..glad to be in the position he is in, a minister in his own right..anytime one is in service, one should ask for Gods help.

Today we ask for Gods help as we prepare for the weekend of builds..of finding more land, of asking for more support for our families…

Maryluz one of our family members just called, Yachary my daughter is driving..Junior is volunteering with you this week at the Restore, everyone is good, how is Sharon and her son, are they back in New Orleans yet.. how is that other family…we are helping them both, we sent Rodney and his family with support to S. Carolina where he had a job and cheaper living and this weekend in Mardi Gras, come see Sharon, we are going back to rehab her house and raising support..

 

You see Maryluz and her family and I went to Gretna La. To look at their apartment, their belongings ruined, their pictures, all of their stuff if you will..and we searched thru New Orleans for   a place to eat, and we ate under a church tent…from there, we went to see her uncle and see about getting Fema signatures..you see they ended up in Yonkers and the mayors office contacted us, what can you do…then a year later, Bill Regan Deputy commissioner dedicated their Katrina home on Willow in Yonkers…where now seven habitat homeowners live…their house is concrete ..beautiful, it wont blow over…their kids are ready to go to college soon, they have their belongings and good neighbors…..all because of the Mardi Gras New Yorleans express..

This weekend marks the time we raise support for Sharon, our tenth family we got housed from New Orleans…come and support us at our Mardi Gras events..pray for us…thanks Millard for being an illustrious minister so we can be ministers in our own circles..time to get it all going..

Ps Yesterday there was as symposium on anti violence in the neighborhoods..remember Anthony another one of our family members, who was shot, who is doing good..we are ready to move in their family shortly…our hurricane here is sometimes that of violence..but we will not be beaten at that either.. the Stimulus package comes down..we are here working ahead moving with great stride, to help in our own positive way to help with stimulating the economy, working hard, helping to get things moving ahead..in building, in weatherizing, in helping save energy.

Yesterday i was fortunate to be able to talk with NYSERDA and two great employees, Kelvin as well as Adelle..who are very excited about our partnership...about working with us, about our Energy Efforts, about our April 17th conference...

Overall we are doing very well, working hard, moving ahead, helping to save energy for our homeowners and our neighbors...

Lets hope for a better future in all we do, come and join us..

These are the days of Elijah, and Ezekiel, prepare the way of the Lord…lots of kids and teens are off this week, from Catholic to Jewish to private schools and public schools, many youth are on volcations today..working on sites, building, helping…if you are off this week, come to 524 main street, and join us, on the A team…the A team invites youth to come and be with us, helping….on our sites…along with retirees, and volunteers, we kick it into high gear during this week..for sure..

 

We also are getting ready for Mardi Gras…so we can have fun and raise support for our work in New Orleans…….so come and build homes here, join us and help us in a great way…

Another Sunday…today we have Iona Prep out on our sites as well as St. Raymonds High school..all good, one working in a flood zone in Mamoroneck as well as another working at our Bronx Warehouse..all good, all a blessing…as well as three kids from Korea and Japan International students, helping out…what an amazing world we have in Habitat for Humanity of Westchester…so many volunteers, so many want to help so many want to be part of this great Blessing….no matter what faith…so here are two high schools that are killing poverty instead of each other on the basketball court…man what a dream come true…yesterday I had a sports therapist call and say, can I get my teams out…

What about your sports teams.. what about the s for Sports standing for Service…what about your congregation its time!!!!!!

 

So step up the plate, put your foot on the fouline. Get read for the three point kick or the goal on the soccer field, and then get out on the battlefield against poverty, the time is now!!!!

In LukeCh24:13-35..it talks about weren’t our hearts burning when we recognized it was the Lord….

Then in Mathew in another verse the parable of the ten bridesmaids occur and talks about having your oil ready…

 

In a way personally..Millard Fuller used to talk about Clarence Jordon and the love of the scriptures and how Clarence would talk about living the real Christian life…..following our Lord, challenging status quo and doing what is right for brothers and sisters, black and white and Hispanic and muslim and all, and reaching out….he would talk about when Clarence died simply in the shack I saw three weeks ago at Koinonia, he died in his sleep, but his legacy remained for Millard, for thousands who were effected by Koinonia, especially  during the civil rights era   Then we hear of the bridegrooms being ready and brides maids, if you will in the new testament…and in a way, I feel for all of us, the second chapter of habiat begins…for the Full er Center…for our lives…for those of us who would love tohear Millard speak with our hearts burning for the Lord, as he challenged ud to go out and build more homes and help more communities because of the commission to do so, whether it be in the Torak or the Bible…now we are left with Millards thouts and words to move on, to step up, to do more..like Millard did after hearing from Clarence…and learning nad having his heart burn having spent time with someone who was faithful to the scriptures…so rise up. Move Up, Build More, ask God to give you more Spirit to do more mtizvahs with ahabitat and service!  It is time for sure…!

Our new crew leader training will be starting in March...people can learn to be volunteer crew leaders on homes...ready to be able to help lead people in variety of things like sheetrocking..painting, trim, windows, doors, etc..this vital training will help our capacity to build more homes in the county..as the requests keep coming in.. from all over..coming in to help us build more homes...build more lives..build more communities...just yesterday we looked at a house in Peekskill and this week we go to Sleep Hollow and Portchester where requests are coming in for us to be able to assist us there....our local project commitees are growing, such as in New Rochelle, Somers and in Yonkers..and others are coming back for their next project like that of Greenburgh and Ossining.

Another Saturday in the vineyard, in the fields in the cotton patch, in the rap hood, in the sidewalkless neighborhood..where do you start your Saturdays..millions start them on habitat sites, as well as on Sundays..building hope building homes..

Today we have our Valentines Hope and Love for all our families, for your families, and for your wishes for a great day of love for all involved..but like my good friend Millie and Bobby at Sutton flowers remind us, everyday is Valentines..Harry Connick would be proud.

 

Maybe for the millions being foreclosed everyday will be Valentines, if the banks hold off foreclosures, and people help them to save their homes from the stimulus package..we will see

Those who give to the poor lack nothing......for sure!  Giving is the best way to Get!! Huh, makes no sense, but this is true in every which way...Millard knew that, the disciples learned it...congregations that thrive and are in mission , live by it...those who give succeed in Gods Successful measures...in my life it has ALWAYS BEEN TRUE...when i give, God gives more...not that that is the reason to give...but tithing, is biblical, from the torah to the new testament..all good, all correct, all points blessings if you will, a funny phrase i once heard...

 

so Give during this recession and you will be in an economic upturn, Gods upturn, and mark my words, God will bless you in ways you cannot imagine...

 

today on TBN, the singer noted...human worship is a hard thing, not what God wants, we are all put on earth to worship Him....so give Praise to our one God, that has birthed Koinonia and Habitat and future generations..praise to giving to others in need, to Habitat or to your favorite cause...give of yourself today as well ...

from TBN to Fr. Dan, a shout out to the campus ministry programs  of 25 colleges that will be coming out to work with us, this spring and in the fall, Fr. Dan OReilly a great person and friend, who comes and hammers and brings hope to the college kids..is on our team..

mIllard fuller carried Clarence Jordons body in his car..when he died..the Sumter County examiner did not want to help declare him dead..or use a county vehicle..the prejudice continued...they wanted Koinonia and Jordan and Fuller to leave..Jordan had started a cotton patch gospel Christian community in s west Ga. in the 194os where black and white people lived together...as community, ...they were racially attacked at the community by the outsiders, called communisits, declared horrible, and thrown at with prejudiced people with bombs and guns and other things...

they hurt him, attacked him, and slandered him and the community

 

they carris his body in a wooden box..Millard would have loved t his like they carried Clarence body in millards car and drove him to the resting place...as the coroner refused to help him.

 

Oh Happy Days..Oh Happy Days...when He walked ..when He walked, when He walked, and took our sins away....

Oh Happy Days for Millard and Clarence reunited...in heaven, with Millards mother, and all the Habitat volunteers who have gone on...there is a house building mansion in heaven today...there are thousands of them being built here on earth today, sat with volunteers..wont you join Clarence and Millard and I on site today....God bless you jjk

Millard Fuller continues to be eulogized in great articles across the world and country…if you want to be rich, wrote Regina Brett, you  have to give away your money..she writes.   An article about a family in Newark in the Star Ledger  talks about the family on Sussex Avenue…a place I know well…where two famous Christians visited…Millard Fuller and Mother Teresa….i had the blessings to both with Habitat on Sussex Avenue after it had been transformed from a war zone back when I Met Mother Teresa there with her sisters on Sussex Avenue. I had volunteered on that street in Newark helping the homeless there, with a school made into a womens shelter and soup kitchen at St. Augustines Church….you would make sure you left by a certain time of the day…or else, things could happen…but I had worked most Saturdays helping there..helping to make sure that a good meal could be had by all…they kept people alive…and then later…15 years later, I would see a neighborhood transformed with Habitat for Humanity, with homes being built all over the area…..homeownership has kicked out drugs and prostitutes in many areas I have worked in and stabilized neighborhoods with increased caring, communitcation, taxes, and the love of families and the equity of the bank of the American Dream, a home….

This Sunday morning.. I go to see Iona College students who are working on our Brush with Kindness project in Mt. Vernon, inspiring..to see people working on helping another place where formerly homeless men live in a shelter..in a city that needs help and caring…here in Westchester County and where we may be getting a home donated to us to move in a family….so pray today for Millard and Mother Teresa, for the families in Sussex Avenue in Newark, and Howard Avenue in Peekskill and 3^rd Avenue in Mt Vernon….Gods creation has come anew because of people like Millard and Mother Teresa and with your prayers and with your hearts and hands and help..it will continue to be renewed on this earth..so all may go to bed at nite in a simple decent home.. In 2009 returns whats mine...whats ours.. whats the peoples...it is important that real land opportunities return to the working people of this county country and world...returning back for those who work to help their families, to help their community, to work to protect and aid us..the working person...the economy of the rocket scientists i call had fuel that was not made of Green Energy but of fools energy, of foundations that crumbled and now the potential for people to suffer greatly increases daily...but our foundation a God foundation on our homes, is one which will not crumble...we dont charge interest, according toe the Old Testament and Bible and Koran, all say in Exodus, dont charge usury to your brother or sister... we dont play around with the fact that if you want good and great productive students and workers, you will help them live and start the day from a good home.. thats God Economics..and the theology of hte hammer....so much of the land has been given by our politicians with the fallacy that the local people dont count, their green, will not keep a sustainable community...but  the regular customer, even though they may have not shopped at Home Depot Expo which is now for all effects gone...buys and shops, has needs, and provides services and taxes in sales and in purchasing homes..not tax breaks, not requests for special exemptions, but the regular customer goes in and out and lives in the community supporting small businesses and being able to live in New Rochelle, in Ossining, in Yonkers, etc...

So 2009 returns whats mine...and yours and God, to the people...already offers of homes are coming to us, for us to return them to those that is theirs, in the form of home ownership...stay tuned...2009 will be the best yet.

 

Tonite we have our Local New Rochelle LPC meeting.. held at 7pm at 591 Main Street...in New Rochelle, there important local meetings ask local volunteers to help us move ahead, to help us increase our projects and increase local participation...one is starting again in Mt Vernon....

 

a note on Millard Fuller and Linda...God bless you both...passing this past week, a week tomorrow, Millard inspired us to take back what is mine and yours..to help all to have their mansions...to Tikkum Elum, in Hebrew theology, to climb Jacobs Ladder daily and help people move up the ladder through home ownership. here goes, we will be looking at moving stronger than ever.. now with Millards loss we all recommit ourselves to building more homes...It has been a tough couple of days to say the least..last nite at a bible study i was asked to invite a church to get involved..much of our early discussion centered around the founders loss, and his commitment to Faith...and Action...may our lives no matter what faith be commited to great Mitzvahs, and great Christian Acts or human acts of action with changing our communities. Our high school meeting also met  last nite at Iona College..building away with us, moving ahead with us..helping us to be able to

see how we can help get all towns and cities involved...Millard had a special commitment to youth, speaking to hundreds of thousands, as do we here.. I think there is no affiliate wth more youth involved than us..

Last a corporation writes me,  Jim we would like to get involved with you..sorry for your loss over the founder..

But we need not have sorrow but Joy for Millard...his last appearance speaking in White PLains I remember hiim stating ..if we act and help we will enter heaven with a resounding shout of you have done what i asked, you have loved and helped good and faithful servants..have a blessed day..the story contnues, Habitat Hoy!!!!!

Yesterday it was a three hour return, I got back at 3am this morning..sad tired..but rejuvenated to move ahead with our work.

To the site. Millard arrived in a simple white van…we pulled his wooden box out…to the grave, myself and Neil from Toronto Habitat and four others, and were there to pray, sing, and Celebrate, though we all cried, the life of this great man, with his great wife Linda and his great family.

I can hear Millard say, no go build more homes Jim…no more shacks, stop the greed of Westchester,  love ya brother…
The amazing thing was as I arrived a ticket agent said..I have a Habitat house..i have a habitat home…God bless the fullers and Habitat for Humanity.

So many people so many homes so many volunteers….

I need to thank you all for your condolensces..this spurs me to more, to build more, to have  hope and challenge for the future. Millard you are here with us today and everyday..God bless, you and your family.

I await Neil Hethington, director of Toronto Habitat, and a star as Millard always spoke of, to pick me up in Atlanta...a long drive to Americus...to where MIllard will be laid to rest...i look forward to Neils wisdom though one of the youngest directors and named one of Canadas top thirty under thirty professionals...as he has been a good friend for a number of years.. In Long Beach Ca. Millard and Neil and I spoke at a conference...and Neil was always on the cutting edge of leading a great city to know taht substandard housing was unacceptable.

 

The Atlanta Journal this morning, front page headline...Habitat co founder dies...He had never been sick...he invested his life in Habitat for Humanity  a Christian Charity, that has built more than 300,000 homes...look what you and Linda started Millard...no question and again I give Linda as you would most of the credit..she is an amazing woman....shes a good egg Millard....a great egg..

 

Other thoughts of Millard and Lindas life was the time i met Millard in Paterson when he was speaking...no one knew that his driver led him into an accident and he spoke with three broken ribs and flew to El Salvador that nite....they wrapped the ribs, in pain as he was..and he went on to Sonsonate and other parts of Salvador to inspire so many there...

 

Or other times he would start speaking swahili at a talk....or french....

Heres to his children, Faith and his daughter and sons, and his grandchildren..they too are heroes for sacrificing so much of their dads time...to other families and their kids....the road will be long...in thirty years millard 300,000 homes.. pray for our next thirty years ...

1000,000 homes, no more shacks..and a world full of love, no pain, no adjustable mortgages, but walls of sweat equity, or safety of Wisdom like that of proverbs..and a world Millard knows now, is part of the kingdom of God he helped to begin to build.God bless, jjk

As I write from Atlanta late at nite.. having traveled on this pilgrimage to give Glory to God for the person of Milalrd Fuller, and my eyes tear up..still not believing my hero has died..He would say, Jim Killoran..you know you always called me a good egg..Jesus would want us all to go on stronger than ever!!!!! Helping to build more homes..to help Sheila to have a home, to help Mutambe to live safely, to eradicate poverty in your lifetime!!!!! Now get going!
So many memories. so many people i have seen with him..I have heard him preachin S. Central Los Angeles in Wesangeles church. I have heard him preach at Harlem Churches, and Bedford Churches, and in Portsmouth New Hampshire. I was honored to be with him when he and Linda, his stalworth wife..inspiring wife...were honored with sidelwalk in Washingion DC for founding Habitat, with former President Bush. I have heard him with former President Carter last Dec 27th in S west Goergia...in a bible study. I have heard him laugh, inspire so many, challenge us all, look at audiences near and far and say, wont you join us in th is movement of the Holy Spirit! 
I saw him walk across the George Washingotn Bridge in 1988 I believe with hundreds and met him in Georgia in Atlanta as he finihsed walking....well Millard you have finished your walk...like Moses, and we must conintue on walking and challenging and fighting and building for the future!!!! Now more than ever...in thirty short years, Habitat has become the 14th largest homnebuilder with you and I...it is in more than 114 countries...

Most appropriate I got off the plane in Atlanta tonite....late, delayed because of snow...I came into the terminal and the ticket agent stated, oh Habitat as she looked at my briefcase....I have one of their houses...no way God, you did it to m e again..you showed Millard and Linda at work..you showed the power of Habitat and Gods Spirit, the Ruah of the Torah and Bible.. the love of the Theology of the Hammer...Habitat Hoy Millard, Habitat Hoy Linda.. Habitat Hoy volunteers!!!! I love you brother pray for me in my walk...if only i can follow in your footsteps to follow in HIS.... we have only Just Begun...See you tomorrow Millard at Koinonia, one last time....

FW: SUPERBOWL BUILDATHON 2009

The day is here, this morning forty people come out and build with us, on our sites with a tailgate party sponsored by Stew Leonards of food and beverage for the volunteers.....Build time looks good, the fans are getting ready and the bus is ready to arrive.

 

During this day, could you sacrifice one extra sandwich, or beer or hoagie and donate to Habitats SuperBowl Build effort.    We dedicate this effort to Anthony a football player from Yonkers, who scorred six touchdowns....a great year..then two weeks before Thanksgiving, a bullet in a drive by pierced his brawny chest, and he survived more than first and ten, but the rest of his life.  God has watched over you, I shared with Anthony from his hospital room, on Thanksgiving Day! I know he said, I know...he was not too happy that day, and the bullet will remain in his body..but it is a strong reminder to me and to all of us to change our neighborhoods, to get guns off the streets of kids hands...and to help move he and his family ASAP into a great home. 

 

Anthony is up and around, back to school, thank God..and may this be his best Superbowl Sunday ever, knowing that he might not have had a chance to live to watch it this past Thanksgiving!

 

We give Thanksgiving to you, and for you and ask you make a special Superbowl Buildathon donation today in honor of trying to help us finish Anthonys home with much needed support so he and his family next year will watch the game in their new Habitat Home.

today is superbowl sunday..SUPERBUILD SUNDAY...Finally here,, a day of importance for recreation, a day of great importance for COMMUNITY SERVICE!  At 9am the ball is put away by Pace Football team and the members come and pick up the hammer and sheetrock tools to build four homes..they have worked on before...and are excited to be out with us. Joe ODonneell Athletic Director comes and states, this is a hilite for our Team Jim...a great experience....the effort of sports players could change the face of the world across the nations...energy of kicking, bouncing, punching, throwing, fielding, balls could be replaced with hammering, painting, sheetrocking, taping, sanding, moving in families on habitat homes...join us during this year as we kickoff TEAM HABITAT 2009 for this vital effort....God bless, jj

Create a clean heart in me oh God….start a new day, help us to help others…help us to pray and act..Amen…

Yesterday SolomonSchechter high school came out in force, helping us to our Superbowl buildathon win, with Pace University Foodtball, swin team, soccer and volleyball  teams… a  great day for anyone involved. Thanks to Michael Lulkin for his cookout prowess with Stacy and Suzy helping to cook, it made it a great blessed day with great warm termperatures, and teams learning how to block…with wood that was within the frames of the Gonzalez house…We are so blessed to have had them. Again thanks to Stew Leonards, and to their great support for this every year.

 

Next…comes our Mardi Gras event…stay tuned.announcement schedules coming up this week.

 

I would like to ask you to pray for different streets in our areas…just that God comes over them with angels and takes out crime and trouble and protects the children..Today remember Lawrence Street in Yonkers..long overdue for an army of angels to walk down and clean it up..the police there along with great people like Henry Rivera and his wife….

ALSO LETS PRAY TO GET GUNS OFF THE STREETS TOO.

 

Also we pray for the economy, the importance of moving it, getting it going, having a debt free society, and having more people with Habitat mortgages, interest free, no down payment. God bless, jjk
