As for me and my house we Serve the Lord!

The sign looks at me every morning in my office...yet i dont alays look at the sign in my office...but when i do I think of your family, or mine, of our homes, of our habitat families from here to Argentina to Yonkers, El Salvador to Tajikistan, to Bedford, and beyond...as for us and our homes we will Servie the Lord...blessings, be we Jewish Christian Muslim, blessings for all of our homes, to make society better, to help one another, to succeed...Unequivocally everyone in their life has an epiphany or realization...that this is the essence of success in life..

 

Interesting times, a piece of three feet span from the Tappan Zee bridge falls, into the water, yesterday..for years i have been talking about this...homes on this side of the bridge please..The bridge is named after Macolm Wilson..a Governor who attended my church...who was a great down to earth speaker....he once gave me a great complement, which i will always remember and cherish...I hope i can inspire people like he did to help the average working person....to go out and to help people to live in community...

a special on tv this friday talks about our infrastructure...what type of infrastructure do we have, to save our bridges, the Tappan Zee, what type of infrastructure do we have to continue to allo salaries to double and pensions to irse while people live longer..and pay more taxes to cover this..what type of infrastructure of quality of life have we created...for the long run...interesting times....

 

for us getting back to basics, living simply, encouraging home ownership, quality with  caring, taxpaying homeowners, to be able to stablize communities in towns and cities where they work.....so they are not communiting...interesting times.. we need to change them to make them better.  God bless, jjk

Can we talk....ok i am not Joan Rivers..but that statement is worth a million and has made her millions, can we listen, maybe that should be the phrase..

 

Tonite Governor Patterson laid out the truth, times are horrible, Sate budget cuts looming...have we had it too good, taken too much for granted...but of course we have..have we leveraged ourselves and created a fake home ownership opportunity at the risk of our economy that borders the depression, but mais bien sur....

have we the opportunity to make this crisis  a chance to get back to basics...cierto.! of course..

ok folks here we go, what Rocket scientists really give everything away to developers, raise their salaries, get the best pensions, tax others, and say they care about the people who live in their town or city.....

could it be....can we talk.....how about politicians donatin their salary back, making term limits. having real change in the form of common sense, giving relief to the average tax payer...is the tea party not far behind...COMMON SENSE, Thomas Paine wrote...

What about homes being the basis for development, creating more tax payers, for people who live in their communities, so they dont COMMUTE AND POLLUTE....What about a Westchester, driven with pride of SATS, trips to help the poor over there...in other countries..but no homes really being made here...can we talk, can we listen, can we find the solution! of course...let this Summer with Governor Pattersons call being a clarion call for COMMON SENSE, FOR COMMUNITY, FOR SLASHING PERKS AND CREATING PORCHES, with mortgages not overleveraged, and fees not doubled, but owership Dreams come true...

what a day yesteday ...a God zone day i you will,
God just continually blessed everything and today will be that way for you and i as well...

meeting with Steve Horton, city councillor and head of the New Rochelle housing authority was a treat..STeve is longtime volunteers and connected to Mt Vernon in special ways that go back to deep family roots...we spoke of the youth of Mt Vernon, of helping build more homes there, and also of building more homes here as well...more to follow..then off to White plains for a meeting, positive, to be able to meet in the Mayors office about more land or possible projects...we will see...in between i met with Ron Walker our Hopes representative who  will meet wtih me weekly to be able to get our retirees in the county more involved...their mission in retirement is vital...they can give back, they can change the world, they can realize some of their most important days are during their retirement...and for Habitat that is profound..in sept, we will have a cookout for our retirees on site to discuss many things....HOPES, HAVING OPPPORTUNITEIS FOR SENIORS EVERYDAY...AND EVERYWHERE IN THE COUNTY...then the next three days are restore sales days, come join us, THE EXCITEMENT IS STILL BUILDING, JUST STARTING, GOD BLESS, JJK

Last nite as i was cutting the grass on our lincoln avenue homes, praying for the families that would live there, proud to know we all helped to make it beautiful homes, and that it would be amazing for families to live in such homes...one of hte applicants who was going gfor her mortgage stopped by..Jim i cant wait, i have five children..they live in two bedrooms, just to have them play outside on grass..is amazing...people like Chuck Flynn and Bernard and Rich Rodrigue, and new Rochelle high school students and Judge Falvey, alll know that their sweat equity will help this families life change forever...profound...so heres to cutting more grass...to more sweat equity to more homes...to changing lives forever together...also a prayer for Meryl Lynch and John Thain today..John has volunteered for years with us, when he was with Goldman Sachs, and then he went to the stock exchange and on to Meryl, inheriting a challenging world, that needs fixing, know you are in our prayers today all at that company...

our economy needs to get back to the basics of strong foundatioins of home ownership and great lending that makes sense for the long run...like Habitat.. God bless, jjk

Interesting day, no question...with working on the armory, to looking at homes to seeing good team captains from Goldman like Pat Welsch to helping see families move in,..all good...while many are at the beach, we continue with hope of getting new sites and new homes for many many more...with green roofs, and efficient home building that will last, we believe that many will save energy due to our efforts...

interesting reports to say the least..the economy, people getting laid off, we need to really see what we can do to save, change and help rethink our world..so vitally important as of this time...from getting out of gas guzzlers, to shutting off lights, to solar and wind, to utilizing bicylcles and building smaller homes..for the long run it all makes sense..in wealtby towns home for sales signs abound, and major money makers have also lost...however the widows mite and your mite count to help us continue to build from the ground up, success after success story, home ownership, built with love and efficiency, we can do this, if we all try, we need you and need us all to participate to bring our America back, while we also tithe to help others as well, God bless, jjk

for now each day is gift...we have so many who help us here in habitat, we are blessed..today our youth come in volunteering, helping to build on a Builders camp, helping to get out and learn vital skills and make it happen, in a way that realizes they will continue on in the future...the future..interesting to say the least...

headline again today hilites Trump wanting to do 7 homes on large acres of land in westchester in Bedford..what a world..yet many who run the town and protect the homeowners, will commute and pollute out of the town because they cant live there, only work there, I need to credit Lee Roberts, town supervisor of the town of Bedford for her great work, for what she has done to help look at creating affordable homes in the town of Bedford....we are finishing are second home there, we are very excited..about this.. very excited to see that Eileen and her family will move in shortly and we will see her successfully have a great place to live with her neighbor due to commitments like those of Lee and the town of Bedford..God bless, jjk

THEN A GROUP OF MINISTERS FROM ALABAMA, HELPING ATTHE LOCAL PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, WALK IN TO OUR RESTORE...I ASK THEM WHY THEY ARE HERE, THEY BORROW MY BIKE HELMET FOR A SKIT WITH KIDS..WE ALL PRAY ON THE STREET TOGETHER, THEY HAVE BUILT FIVE HOMES IN ALABAMA, FOR FAMILIES....

 

SO CROSS THE BRIDGE WITH US, BUILD THE BRIDGE WITH US, WITH GOD AS THE CONCRETE IN OUR LIVES, AND DREAMS COME TRUE FOR FAMILIES ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BRIDGE IN TERMS OF FINISHED HOMES. GOD BLESS, JJK

cradle to cradle..a book by William McDonough..gives great Green Insite to some interesting ways we will Green our world, and utlize materials that will be able to be reused in all we do forever...this includes building supplies as well...how do we do what we are doing...build communtiies in ways that our supplies utilized are green...get a chance to read about it on line if you can..

a ride to Albany the state capital where my son is going to college, three deckers, old buildings..many apartments, interesting housing stock..the Albany today is passing a law that every family in new york is to have a home, ..what a bill that would be, if only true..however there is a move to make our legislator partner with all of the habitat affiliates in the state..asking for a statewide partnership like is being done across many states in the country..we have large partnerships in florida, michigan, califonnia to name a few. as the fourteenth largest home builder, our support is paramount for success..paramount for our growth, paramount to help us make the dream a reality..stay tuned for more and habitat in the Empire State and in Westchester, the excitement is building!

ok so here goes, how do we build community,, churches once did it, synagogues, both still do it, temples..how aobut liviung communities, walkable communities, energy efficient communities...and more // all good, all important, all necessary for changing the world back.. a carless world, a world, with homes for all, affordable, tax paying long term stakeholding community citizens, who care and want the American Dream..Feast or famine..hi end, shiny coifed developers come in, and tie up properites for years...and havent developed their lands, havent made it happen in ways that are important for the future..gentrifying people, who spend their money, small as it was,daily at small businesses who in effect get gentrified, while we wait for the big guys to comb their hair another way hoping they put a shovel in the ground... while they get politicans and WAG coverage, due to how nice their suit looks...in the meantime the American Dreams get pushed out more and more..this is the quest and stupidity of single minded development based upon peoples view and development from the outside in, instead of strengthening existing businesses and citizens, lifting them up, and then creating more small businesses and venture capital for those who want to try a new idea..right now four business men and women come to me and say Jim let me develop here, let me start here, let me make it happen here...and make it fun...how do i do it, how do we get there, how do i get capital...the COMMON SENSE FUND INITAITIVES ARE COMING..mark my words...

What a day...thanks to Citibank and Meg Ryan and the gang, working hard on  one of the hottest days of hte year, along with our builders camper, Hunter, John in Bedford, and many more..

today is one of those days I do what i call the Westchester World tour...it is almost like the size of a small country and too many there is one world, westchester..part of the problem, part of the hiddenness part of the strength...with that in mind...people get involved and they dont get involved...they send their kids to the "best" schools, where other kids go to the "worst" schools..or what does that mean...some kids have no after sports programs in westchester, and others have tutors to tie their shoes and pick their steve maddens and highest psats...what a world,right...Many dont think there is a need for homes here...why its westchester home of the WAG and TRUMP and the WESTCHESTER  (the name of a Mall where you get Mauled with High prices..kiddin, maybe)...today i went through the world...went from Yonkers to Bedford...almost like three worlds...also people like head of the sports teams...of Horace Mann, and head of student bodies, to teens who dont live in a decent home and immigrants who just get their papers today..what a world we live in...

How do we level the playing field, not only in sports teams but in life teams...how do we help everyone understand how everyone can win, if we just share and build and dream together...the greed recently of this country got us into the financial mess we are in, foreclosures at astronmical costs, challenges that are unbelievable...and no rooms at the inn..for the average working person and family..

Proudly i always get reinvigorated, not so much with self pride, but just the pride of being able to be part of the blessings of Habitat, when i see our four homes in Yonkers being worked on, while at the same time, i take the tour and see our second home in bedford being finished....in Yonkers citibank employees and in bedford, A team teenager members and new volunteers like Jack and his wife and my long time heroe..John Chambers a superintendant of schools recently retired, who has volunteered with us regularly his schools..

thank you to all who come out,along iwth my other A team volunteers helping us to move our warehouse..

so help us today level the playing field..help us make Westchester the world one world, where dreams can come true for all...jjk

Its a rare day i dont travel and someone says hey you work with habitat, when they see a t shirt, i want to volunteer...fondly i remember the times when no one knew what we did, or do, back in the day before the popularity...volunteering in Newark, Paterson NJ, Tecate Mexico, south Central..all good..

we have plenty to do now, and even though we are the fourteenth largest builder in the county, we have so much more to do. This morning people come in, help us, and work with us, seeing us and asking can i volunteer..companies, citizens, teenagers, all working on sites today July 16th...

I was in Albany yesterday bringing my son to his college football camp and getting him settled in, looking at the housing, the history and the hope the campus represented to students at Hudson Valley...different old mill housing, factory housing, reconverted, saved where many live and study or work in the states capital..

i dreamed that everyone in Albany had a home, that everyone in NY State in this time of history from Buffalo to the Battery could have a home..DREAM AGAIN, RECOMMIT, that is how habitat started and continues with success with Gods help....

The trolley runs today, all over the city..in new rochelle..amazing...i have many friends who love to cover what we do, with gratitude..education about greening our world, while also making it fun is important..i just ran into my friend Jennifer who comes in for coffee at kaffeine, she is the Spa manager at the Ritz Carlton in white plians and we spoke about her green building and spa in New Mexico that she worked at previously...going green, living green, geo thermal, organic materials...wind and solar , no forced air, etc...we can do this folks, we can change our patterns again for the positive, no question..we can do this so that we drive less, have more fun..and improve our own communities right where we live...like the Sound shore, the water, the roads to be walkable, and homes to be green and affordable...yes with public tranpsort and green homes and condos, we will drive less. and taxes will go down...and life will be better, not just for us, but for future generations....

 

A shout out to my bus heroes in the morning in the front of the Restore.. people who have taken public tranpsortation their whole life, no cars, no autos...and now they are better off than those of us who are so dependant upon cars we would not know how to get on a bus....we pray together in the morning, they get early morning buys, and they love life...God bless,

In light of the miracles of habitat and God moments..God works in amazing ways daily.

last nite after a big day on sites, and successful day on the trolley, pushing public tranpsort tied to affordable home ownership in communities..i went to manhattan where my kids were born, and we love it there, no question..one of the reasons  is my years working with the homeless there, helping when streets were lined with people...a different time now, not as many ..tomkins square parks is a nice redone park..not homeless nor protestors like there were..and life is different..I was talking to our waitress at Bryant Park with my kids and she tells me she is a new yorker, but has travelled..Christine...after four interactions during different trips to our table..i ask where does she live...i live on 6th street between C and D in alphabet city, she states..

i have helped with Catholic workers, and i live with my sister, who lives in a Habitat building there..unbelievable...that was the first buildling i raised money for ..looked down from the top floor through holes in the floors to the bottom of a condo building that was run down and now families live in a beautiful condo building there...Praise God, for whom all Blessings flow..!!!! what a gift, with my sons there, who i had pushed in a baby carriage at one of the events i coordinated there, and now he goes to college and as i said to them and to you...that is a God moment of Habitat...

 

This morning Sunday as i watered the grass on Lincoln Avenue...a highly visbile street in New Rochelle, and people in the neighborhood i know, said hi. and people going to churches, and the beach, i prayed as I walked over the newly seeded area, (because we had to add two more dry wells, yikes..never a dull moment.)..i hoped the families that lived in this once run down project, now very beautiful..would have amazing lifes, Christians, presidents people of different faiths or no faith, but to be blessed..abundantly and witnesses of Gods love that Habitat has helped so many and now the families can help so many others! Another mother and daughter come to me, she works hard her daughter goes to NEW
RO as we call it, high school. they need a condo, to live in,  i tell them about my Main Street project, i want to buy and fix, that one of our teen volunteers this week told me..it was the worst day of my life..what was, the day the building you want to buy burned down, i used to live in that building......so pray for our teen volunteer and his mom..our Lincoln neighbor and her daughter, the families that will move in, Christine, and the thousands who want to have their generation changed by being long term  stakeholders, with real affordablility...and lives that will bless this world forever, forever in gratitude and prayer for those who read this..THE EXCITEMENT IS STILL BUILDING..AND YES PLEASE DONATE SO WE CAN BUY THAT BUILDING ON MAIN STREET FOR THE FAMILIES I JUST SPOKE OF..GOD BLESS YOU!

what a day, and then we have so many things going on..so many great things.. Last nite our families got together in Yonikers to hear our Green energy consultants, talk about saving energy..sounds simple but, turn off your lights, pull out all your plugs, run your dishwasher late at nite, not at peak times...help to be able to not to fail but plan to win, win in the WAR ON ENERGY...also our guests the Church of the Holy trinity, our Lutheran friends, will be getting an energy audit...take advantage of these things now..

tomorrow US gypsum comes out to build, and more continues...the work continues..

for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee and me..it seems that way, on busy days..what experiences, what has happened especially after a long fourth of july...where do we go from here...where do we move ahead..what happened over the weekend..what permits need to be in..what needs to be completed...so much to do, but in all we are so grateful..this weekend the Restore continued to be a blessing for so many from people moving into their new homes, to people who were in a domestic violence situation a mother and children, who we helped so much,to veterans involved...so busy so much..we had so much work to do, with all that in mind, we move ahead with gratitude we can help people from homes to moving in, from guidance and input to the American dream come true...for this we celebrate our freedoms and our ability to be a blessing to one another, it is about not just building homes, but building people God bless, j

an interesting time..how do we save energy, how do we build with Leeds, how do we improve our communities..all is going great thank God, every day is gift.every minute..

we are all ready to help change the world..but some times it comes in small steps..

every day success...comes in small steps..and they add up to much, whether we ride a bike,..walk more..change our light buibs shut our computers off at night..it all adds up. it adds up for success of changing our environment...

also in terms of changing the Berlin wall and knocking down prejudice against affordable ownership housing..it all adds up..for us to hold a local committee meeting, to talk with your faith community about how they get involved, too sponsoring an event for us..it all adds up...no question..of how we can educate people that affordable ownership is green, makes success and can help make the community better by having people who work in the community be able to live there..it all makes COMMON SENSE right.

a great day, beautiful, successful, blessed..every day is a blessinug, no question, we work hard, we see people so many who say thank you, or donate to us..

like your selves...

 

a family walks in ..how can we help, i just retired as a lawyer and want my two daughters to help.

the public health commissioner, a good person, visits our Restore on his lunch stroll through New Rochelle and our offices...we both believe if people started from a good home we would be able to have less health problems for familes no question..

 

along with that we would be able to help to redo communities, revitalize, and help to make the communities of all economic backgrounds safe and better educated...with less health problems..

 

tonite we go to Rye, to help come up with a strategic plan to help finish adelines house, long overdue, but the floods of mamoroneck side tracked and with our local model, the need for the community of Rye to step up is vital...each communtiy should chip in to help..that is vitally important...

 

each day is gift, thank you for all you do, in a time when all we hear is about Obama, or McCain, or Nader, we are out there building, painting, trying to finish homes...1 billion dollars in election money...mmmm.how many homes could we build with that, how many communities could we change, how many kids could we educate...how many seniors homes could we finish...God bless you all, the reall change is in you and I and on the ground, working and helping...peace, jjk

WHAT A DAY, AN ANNOUNCEMENT I MAKE ON WAR ON ENERGY..SOUNDS CRAZY RIGHT..but we cant be beholden at the risk of others, and we have to take our own destiny into our own hands, no questions..we need to be able to work to save energy now, get our homes and businesses in order now, so the winter we will not be suffering this winter, also savings on air conditioning costs and Cpn Edison need to happen now..

 

This fourth of July, we kick off a Summer of Common Sense in honor of our revolutionary hero Thomas Paine from New Rochelle, we need to have our own revolution personally and collectively, to save energy, to create affordable ownership housing now..  less commuting and polluting, real community being built back again and a summer of fun locally, who needs to travel away, take charge now of our own lives, live locally, travel locally, think globally..and help save the earth and our communities for the future..of our grandkids..think about bicycling..think about solar and wind, think about what is going on in your own community, walkable cities, walkable streets, less concrete more affordable homes, with healthier, Energy Star rated appliances..
