On this Memorial Day, we remember those Veterans who have died for us, those soldiers who fight for our continued safety and freedom, and for a simple decent home for all.

 

This week we celebrate our American Dream Luncheon, June 3^rd, following a time where Habitat assisted the

Veternas in New Rochelle with their annual parade

 

To that end, we are grateful for our partnership with many Veterans groups, and kickoff Habitat for Veterans (see Habitat for Veterans FB) this month, with the mission of rehabbing veterans omes, creating new housing for those returning and engaging Vets in continued Volunteerism, which we have enjoyed over the years. We also hired a Marine this week into our Restores, and hope to teach veterans returning building skills, to help with our building programs,while helping to employ them.  We announce a 50,000 Challenge Grant by the Lanza family foundation to help with our HABITAT FOR VETERANS PROGRAMS. Every dollar donated is doubled in helping Vets have homes, or those on fixed incomes retain their home as retired Vets.

 

With that in mind, we say God bless America, our freedoms and the ability to have a simple decent home. To that end, we were named number 6 builder in the country, and will not be satisfied till every one has an opportunity to have and strive for the American Dream.

Watering  planters early Tuesday morning…

In Yonkers on the Ashburton corridor on Orchard, Vineyard..marty yells, they look great Jim, Joseph from the neighborhood who we hired part time helps me..no garbage after along weekend in any of them..people always ask, what about those people..they wont keep them nice..our high schools are taking the lead..our volunteers our friends..Jo Jo and Mr W, meet me at the local bodega, supermarket..hi jim, they look great, be blessed…keep going! Keep building…with your help  we can..adopt a planter with us, give us a donation of 100 dollars…

This morning one of our moms walks her son to school..he is still tired… but he is doing good, she yells, have a great day Jim..

Thousands drive by that corridor..they don’t always realize there are future presidents..future doctors, future, leaders.. future teachers, future habitat workers..

HABITAT FOR VETERANS VETERANS FOR HABITAT..

 

We are honored to be working to help maximize our programs for VETERANS FOR HABITAT AND HABITAT FOR VETERANS…We come upon Memorial Day, where we have been blessed to help with a number of local legions.  We also work with the VFW’s, where we help with rehabbing senior Vets homes.

We also have VOLUNTEERISM WITH HABITAT VETS…those like the West Point Cadets who help us in so many ways..to that end we move ahead…we celebrate this vital Memorial Day..probably the most important one yet…

 

My cousin Michael died in Vietnam. My five uncles were in the Coast Guard, at Anzio, in the Navy, in the army, and one stationed in the European theatre..three brothers on my moms side, two on the other….I dedicate my work for them, for our freedoms, for everyone who is there.In the Bible the one with the most faith was the centurion..who fought, who believed, who protected…

 

Wth that in mind, we say God bless the team overseas, here and everywhere, stay tuned for

A late nite meeting in the hood..lets get peace…lets walk for one hour…we bring peace with hammers, and hearts..8 hours a day every day..then at nite..reviewing neighborhoods, lighting, safety issues, play issues for kids…everyone has a great opportunity..to change communities..communities need peace, with jobs, education and housing…a mom comes out..can you help us repair our window (brush with kindness) ..can you help to get a second window..the daughter comes out..what aer you doing I ask….how are you doing..are you working…do you have a GED..both answers no…we are helping our neighbor find out about a cooking school and local GED program….our next door neighbor, young needs a job..come out and help..join us…lets get going..

No one should be without a job, employment, housing,  a great house of worship..and education..help us build peace and communities one conversation, one meeting, one day at a time, on two by four at a time..it is a wholey fulfilling experience, it is a holy fulfilling experience.. God bless you all…

Its Good Friday…every day is Good Friday, Great Friday at Habitat, with volunteers across the county..

Webster bank will join us, a local bank, and then FIRST AMERICAN TITLE, for the tenth year, coming out..with us, helping with our golf tournament, helping with our work time and time again..from New Rochelle to Yonkers they have helped us regularly.

Then yesterday the Daily News writes a story on us on page 88…habitat of Westchester is Green in so many ways..help us if you can..It hilites Mastercard as well in their participation..and Mastercard comes for our planning meeting today on site…wow! 200 strong next week..

Then tomorrow Trinity Lutheran of Whtie Plains comes out..to join us and build with us..so great!

Led by city council woman Beth and Rev Norman..they continue to come out..they will be with us June 3^rd.  With that in mind, we think of the Psalmist who wrote..In all we do and say, let us give THANKS!

We keep building, we keep moving, we keep helping..

No question…a person from PortChester writes, can you help us..can you build with us, can you help me rehab my home…a senior..we say YES!

The city of White Plains calls, can you help the Slater center with paint and help them with Brush with Kindness…OF COURSE!  A neighborhood needs to be revitalized..in Yonkers…Orchard and Vineyard. We say YES….with so many helping us, we can galvanize our armies, of congregations, companies and citizens, helping us everywhere.

 

DECADE OF SERVICE AWARDS!

FIRST AMERICAN TITLE comes and joins us this Saturday to be one of the hilites of our work! They have worked with us as part of the solution of our neighborhoods..for years..with our golf tournament, with our building, with so much of what we do…Thank you to Linus Savage, Anthony Ruggieri and all the team helping us this Saturday on our sites in Yonkers! And for being with us for so long.

 

Also people like County Legislator Marty Rogowsky get recognized for his Service, for helping Green Westchester County..for his leadership on helping to make our county Greener in all he has done..Thank you Marty!

We pray for Memphis today, and for those by the Mississippi and in Vicksburg and towns and cities…I love the Mississippi…but the fury can leave its path for others, in ways that can boggle the mind….our work to help in those areas have been ongoing..and we pray for homeowners everywhere….

 

Today GoingGreen, a conference in White Plains…that is being held at Pace U.  and Good Counsel. The Sisters see it as a Moral Imperative as do I..and the legalities and challenges are many but not impossible…..

 

To this end we support anyone who encourages a future world being greener, and cleaner for our kids, grandkids andyou and I…. God bless  you!

I am so blessed to work with Latinos African Americans, Irish, Italian, Haitians Americans, Arabic, Jewish Muslim Christians no faith, everyday of mylife in Habitat..in the love of God that binds us together..that not only solves problems for people with no homes, but with your help…we build homes for them and with them.

The Solar Act..how do we speak about it, get empowered, look to pass it…The Solar Industry Development and Jobs Act of 2010 provides a needed blueprint for solar leadership.  Electricity will rise, we know that, oil prices yup, gas, thru the roof..why not pushing solar now..where are the environmentalists,..those who push for greener cities..this should be on the heart and minds of so many…our Green Lunch and learn series moves ahead, with support, with guests, with info on things like the Solar Act, insulation, making your home green, healthy paints, healthy floors..recycling and more…join us as you shop at our Mt Vernon Restore..

Today we receive our Green SIP roof panels..on our homes..very exciting..helping to make the roof air tite, for the Johnson family..so they can save utilities for a long time to come so the money can go to a college education...to food, to essentials..saving energy is the operative design word for our homes these days and was in the past since 1997.

Last nite I was blessed to sit with the St Josephs neighborhood association of Ashburton Avenue in Yonkers…Ashburton Avenue is one where I have traveled for years..to our three neighborhoods..i love Ashburthon Avenue..and it will be one of the prettiest neighborhoods in all of Westchester..stay tuned..

A new day is coming for the corridor, from the bottom up, with neighbors and volunteers working together…stay tuned.
