Our four homes..what a blessing…staff is moving ahead…leading volunteers..a world is changing this Saturday..wtih thousands of volunteers..frm the Musicians village where I helped unload trusses and walls we built in Rockefeller center, that got delivered to NOLA..to other sites…heres to all our friends around the world..from Haiti to NOLA to New Rochelle toYonkers..God bless you all..Kembe Fem!

A beautiful Sunday…bikers riding, people helping, many getting involved all over…no question..

 

A day to slow down, to pray, to have fun..to be thankful…lots of times I know the business of the day causes me to not be grateful enough, little details, wheres the water for the concrete mix, where are they..did we get the supplies….all of that is miniscule to the thanksgiving of knowing the end product we housed a family, we gave scholarship money, we tithed and built homes across the world, we stabilized neighborhoods..profound!

 

We need to be able to be so thankful for what we do in Habitat…for each volunteer and worker, each donor and contractor, each piece of land and community…know we are thankful for you today..with GRATITUDE..JJK

Today we embark on the anniversary of Katrina..a world to change, a state and city to change..having been to NOLA right after Katrina..smelling the horrible stench of the waters, or death of rot..then to go back and see the city begin to revive..it is an amazing group of citizens, who love the Big Easy, and so many across the country who love the gulf and NOLA….many friends, like Sharon and Flo and Erica and Wendy and all the gang..who we helped rehab their homes in NOLA>.and still need to help more..

We have so much to do, so many homes to help with there …and here…we take every second as gift, every minute, every moment…..

It is all a blessing to be able to help….some people look every morning at the photos, at the sites, at the disaasters…we all ask why…but we do say that God is in charge…of the economy, of the weather of our response…so we pray and give thanks for all those in the Gulf Coast..for all those who have helped…and for the whole world…with gratitude for all of you..jjk

A great weekend..in Yonkers, meeting new neighbors on Vineyard and Orchard St…as well as getting ready for transforming  neighborhoods there..what a BLESSING!  We have so much going on…we have so much where we change lives, homes, gardens, etc..OUR GREENIES EFFORTS..have many of our students, looking at the whole neighborhood and seeing what areas we can make green…Our efforts to be able to move ahead will see also many homes in our neighborhoods….very exciting.

Main Streets…always been a big main st. guy, always will be…walkable communities, green, organic..people living in real community, less use of cars..more use of local small businesses the heart and soul of America…

Our politicians get big donations from big developers..they work to publish their names in press releases..while little guys get missed..coromandl, total performance, ib cohens, cholos…our Old Navy store, the Four season..on main st…with affordable condos on Main Street..and trolleys too…

We believe the Lord has called us to demonstrate His CRAZY IDEAS for those in need wherever they are…Millard Fuller in No More Shacks…

All of us involved in Habitat seem to be peacemakers… he writes..

 

During this time of Mosque debate, of division, of pointing fingers, pray and join us to be crazy peacemakers, to be builders, to be BUILDERS OF HOPE..OF HOMES..with that in mind join us..build with us, join us…we will have thousands of volunteers this year, just in Westchester county…

 

This morning Neir walks in from Israel, before he returns to Jerusalem…Raheem stops in the Restore to say hi Jimmy, and the Reverand stops to ask us for support..for supplies for his congregation..crazy peacemakers, builders of community of all backgrounds..

 

Yesterday I took a long  tour of Orchard Street..I met with neighbors, hired someone to help us with our site, met Chuck the veteran who with pride takes care of his land…Omar, who went to Lincoln High, who will help us…..i walked by the homes that are burned now..that I saw people killed in a fire 12 years ago…I saw land that I know God will help give us.

Then I returned, and I walked and a I prayed as  I walked..that we will change this neighborhood for great things, homes, leaders, and transition…wont you join us! Pray for Orchard Street today…for all the angels..for our work..for our building, for a NEIGHBORHOOD OF HOPE AND LOVE!

Renewable energy for our work, going Solar, looking at wind power, and also our Insulation will be green….or blue..like blue jeans..

This weekend we collected large amounts of denim blue jeans for our insulation, 25,000 square feet of it, will be used to help seniors and vets, with our weatherization Brush with Kindness program..

If you have a senior or veteran that needs a home weatherized let us know..

Along with that we are blessed to be able to help so many, from this senior today who we will deconstruct her garage that was hit over by a storm to helping those in Haiti, to helping another family in White plains and much much more..

 

God has blessed us so much in all we do, because of people like you..

Also shout out to Family Christian Center, that gave us a shout out, they used flooring tiles and more from ourRestores…

sometime we get stoped from working too hard...and this allows us an appreciation of ourlife, of our world, of every breathe...lastnite another packed volunteer orientation..EVERY MONDAY AT 6PM..saw many people from Hastings, from Scarsdale, from Larchmont, Katonah...can we build iwth you..yes in our own town or city...what..we cant build here...they think...time to change the way people live and survive and help one another...time to build in your town..

Today our BUILDERS CAMP begins again..working away, doing great...along with that we have many who will go to our Employment training program...last we will see finsihing touches on our Mamoroneck homes,our Purser homes,...amazing..

stay tuned!so stop for a  minute, five minutes. an hour, pray, be greatful and love life..

A new day,,…do you know someone who has a home to be rehabbed….needs help…someone who cant pay for repairs, but needs help….or a piece of land that needs to be developed…let us know.

We are working hard to be able to help to develop communities all over Westchester…..

This weekend we hope to move  two families in their homes..yahoo…so needed…we also will repair four homes to continue to make it happen, to assist others…to help people have their place be safe and warm.

 

Our denim jean collection continues…we move ahead with great collections of jeans, thank you so much for the Cross  County shopping center for helping..for making this happen..for assisting us in helping to create insulation…drop your jeans until sept 18^th at the site at the tool shed out side forever 21…and help someone have a warmer winter…

 

We will be able to continue to move ahead, to help be Repairers of the Breach, helping to rehab communities..with your help..God bless.

These are the days of Elijah declaring the name of the Lord..days of servants Moses…days of great trial..famine darkness and sword, still we the voice in the desert crying Prepare ye the way of the Lord!

 

Leaving a prayer serviced with my Haitian American frineds, remembering the dead bodies, the earthquake..the earth could quake tonite…the gulf could swell again and NOLA  or NEW YORK wiped out…

But the days of the harvest are here…if we labor in God s vineyard…declaring the word of the Lord….

With our Actions, with Habitat…Muslim,Christian Jew, …the God of Abrhaham has called us…time to get busy!!!!!

 

Thank you..truly today was a blessed Thursday…four towns and cities, we built in…hundreds of volunteers…in the background I hear,…there is no God like Jeheoah….no God…the trumpets rise in our neighborhoods, years of Jubilee…salvation comes with habitat in the form of a hammer, climing Jacobs ladder in the form of sheetrocking…and salvation comes when the keys re given to another family….join us…!

so graeful to the one God we believe in..imagine everyone fighting  over the Mosque..on all sides, worked together to buid homes..to help neigbhbors.. God knows no denomiation walls..that is why what happens in the walls of faith communities sometimes is worse than what happens outside the walls...Millard always said. the most segregated hours of the week are Friday sat and sunday....on 911 we have Catholics and Jews and Muslims and no faith people all working together..we have an environmental fair..we will transform walls iwth paint, we will worship with our hands in action..hands of the same number of fingers, hands of love no matter what denomination the person is that will sweat that will work that will build love int he Mortar Joints...on 911 the World Was changed forever..this 911 come out and Change the world...we have been doing long b efore a National Day of Service.. i am honored to recognize how important this is and was...can you transform lives with us, and communities!~!!!!!!!

An early morning call into the radio…I state..Imagine..like John Lennon, the Flaming of the Fires of religion have caused wars and death  for years..from massacres of protestants, jews  mulsims catholics Indians

and more…  would God create another religion today…does God challenge people to kill one another in the name of the Love of God….wee call it the Theology of the Hammer, only we hammer nails not each other, we kill poverty not people..we eradicate injustice, not eliminate indians…we raise walls, instead of bombing them…our prayer in action is outside of walls on work sites, building homes…not inside walls flaming hatred and special gnosic answers………..we can all work together BUILD WITH US THIS 911  ON 911 THE WORLD WAS CHANGED FOREVER, THIS 911 COME OUT AND CHANGE THE WORLD…  to that end we wake up we pray to the one God we all believe in, or don’t believe in, and work together…..

visting my homeland today in the commonwealth of Massachusetts....Worcester Ma...second largest city in New England great stock from my folks, my aunts uncles, sisters, cousins and more...all blessed to have lived here...we took it for granted..but from a former cousin a city manager, to police and court officers to bank and principals..we done good..thank God!  Habitat is here..i was on the board and will visit some homes as well as my family tomorrow...everyone a home...we hope..here housing style is often reflected in what is called three deckers..homes ..apts, or condos, with three floors....having been born on the top of one, and my mom talking about bringing the coal for the winter up the stairs...glad to see so many still here...perhaps a little more creativity could be added, but still simple decent homes...I heard about solar panels being put on a senior center...WTAG the first radio station, our WVOX, had greats like Tony Randall start there...Denis Leary, Rich Gedman, all of my St Peters alum....as well as Matt Morse principal...

working class city, in the heart of the commonwealth, much like Yonkers a city of hills....my your hometown or city be blessed tonite..may you remember from where you came..to where you are..to how you help and change your own community..may all live in a simple decenthome...i started the day in NY, with a doctor from Mt sinai...who went to Haiti..he wanted my input...Claude Jeudy emails me from Haiti this morning...we are working on amazing things to change Haiti...stay tuned...from Worcester to Westchester and Westchester to Worcester...and Delmar to Petionville, Port Au Prince...the world is smaller, communities and home towns can be rebuilt and the dream of simpe decent homes for all across the earth ....continue...God blessyou and yours...jjk

Lets look at the things that we see in front of us, great talented people..people who are working helping and with talent..who can bring their gifts to help in so many ways….

Often we don’t look at those right around us as talented…for us, everyone has an opportunity to be at the Habitat table, building, mentoring, helping in the stores, or in the offices, or running an event to raise funds…for our houseraising..

 

Yesterday I took a ride to see the home that needs rehabbing in White Plains that the city called us on to help rehab….another great opportunity, with walking distance of our Highland Avenue site…we will have a busy fall in White Plains…as well as Somers, Yonkers, New Rochelle, Mamoroneck and more…

We need you to make sure there is an LPC leader inyour community and committee…to grow our work there…stay tuned…we have only just begun..with your help
