FW: blog

Yesterday at the Governors Committee on Utilities I proposed a National Disaster University where utility workers from across the country would attend a national certification program as well as others who could attend, knowing about how to handle disasters, learning on how to respond better, etc.  This was well received.

I see this being put in the Rockaways, helping the Rockaways having a university, increasing jobs and utilizing best practices. I will be presenting this in a number of forums.

My experience with New Orleans, the Mamoroneck Floods, Hurricane Irene and Sandy has helped me to come to this conclusion.  Its time we can respond and learn from each disaster collectively.

Today we build in White Plains and Mt Vernon. Our made in America Shop in Mt Vernon is moving ahead..doing great…we are ready to work on making things this weekend there, stay tuned.

We are also excited during this 25th anniversary we hope to blitz homes..

Today we also welcome Gorton High School Volunteering with us and Americorp.

We are so blessed with all of our volunteers.

Every second is gift…we look at things like how we help one another, love one another, reach out..many in Sandys harm have been reluctant to ask for help..

Never having asked..a firefighter comes up..i feel awkward asking….we know..

But at the end of the day, we all need help..every person on this earth..every one is also put on earth to help others..no question…with that in mind we thank you for helping us help others..to live, to survive, to make it..to do great things..

If we look at different things and we see how life brings us to different stages..we often ask why..i am a strong believer it all happens because God loves us and helps us each way..if we turn away..well then things happen..

For us in the Rockaways we are so blessed to be there..to help so many to care, to meet so many who care, to see people of all races colors and creeds work together, economic strata..

This is what I have seen on habitat sites where people work together, where love is the operative word, and helping becomes the lifeblood of our work.

To that end we continue…thank you all for helping……….!

Every second is gift…families call me this morning..on phone with mayors office..

Just got off..we can help with muckouts..we have plenty of work and plenty of muck outs…

Every day Is like six months of work, no question..every day is where we seek to get people together..to work, to muck and gut, to rebuild, to help…

Never a dull moment..for sure.

We work we move ahead, we clean we cry we hammer, we give sheetrock, we celebrate we give information, we coordinate, we send thousands of volunteers into the fields of Sandys ugliness, and make it no more ugly, homes, neighborhoods, rebuilds..hope…thank you!
