The world we know, changes daily…all ways re leveled..todays headline in the newspaper…HOUSING EFFORT TOUSED AGAIN..in the Journal News..HUD says Westchester fails to o solutions to racial segregation..This nitemare for so many..who have stopped affordable housing..finds it hard to believe..come on, what have we done, while monies have been received from HUD for years…this lawsuit has national proportions, and it not unique to Westchester….the urban over denses cities, of minorities, often is sourrounded with pillows of white enclaves of weatlth superb sats and schools, beemers and boats for the Atlantis..now some may not like this, but this is Christmas a time of truth, in Christ..that we believe in.

I remember being shown only certain neigborhoods by realtors, as my family is multi racial…our neighbors moved to a white enclave away once we purchased…imagine what afeeling that is…the neighborhood went to hell..they let another Irishman in…and Latina and African American…students from Williams College are in town..last nite over pizza..they stated..New Rochelle seems pretty diverse, its cool…Williams the number one school according to Forbes and afew others, for educational prowess and success…good observation  Williams….by the way what color is Santa Claus, mulit colored…so on Dancer and Prancer and Donna and Bltizen..may 2011 bring great schools to the innercity, and diversity to all the towns where there is no color…or Irish or Italian or African Americans, or Latinos…after all isn’t this America……..Merry Christmas…

Daily we celebrate Christmas these days, holiday partys, come as Santa the Lions ask..can you bring gifts to the school…my family wants to volunteer for the week can we..

It is a busy busy time for us here in Habitat land, no question.. we are building away, helping to save homes, and families lives, helping to appreciate communities, and changing  them from getting worse but helping them getting better.

What a gift it is to me to be part of this.no question…we do this time and time again….

A cold nite, here trying to save someone from being foreclosed..what did Wells Fargo do, what did the foreclosure counselor do, what about maintainance..did you have due process….do I pack my bags, do I put my things in storage…did they do due diligence…bonuses given, in large amounts, while others struggle to stop from getting kicked out…Merry Christmas…maybe ..can you help us change this situation…………

Often many state I should write a book…my blog to a certain extent adds pages of pages…How do we change our neighborhoods and substandard living to Green rich living in our Urban areas.  How do include affordable homes in towns that systematically have denied people of color and race, ethnicity, usually guided by the portals of realtors doors…and out the door..to places of inclusion….

Many stories come to mind, including changing parks back to active places of engagement and health and green space, from concrete jungles and barren  activity less areas…to empty burned out homes that can be made whole again with Habitat.

This is our daily challenge…as well as entering IVY league towns, if you will ones, where the kids are going for the gold of Goldman Sachs and IBM..while other urban kids have no after school programs in the next municipality  This is our challenge of Habitat of Westchester..the book is starting, going to print, stay tuned… God bless you all..pray for those who have no heat tonite, unsafe neighborhoods, burned out homes next to theres..and no HOPE, but there is HOPE WITH YOUR HELP..

Now more than ever..thanksgiving is every day in Habitat!  I have so much to be grateful for…like from you and others…who help us…or the Lanza family foundation, or the Keller Williams realtors office..or the Integramed company..all go great to us!

We are so grateful…never before have we seen the need for foreclosures to change the need for affordable housing to be created..the need for love to be shared, and greed to be dared…

What a week..we started off with two articles in the newspapers..one in the Sunday Real estate section of the NY Times, the other honoring Bill DeKnaetel volunteer of Eastchester..

Then we were able to help welcome so many volunteers this Holiday Thanksgiving week.

We also presented at the Flood summit and am proud to speak up and create a Facebook page on The Mamoroneck Flood Watch..stay tuned. We have a world to change..a first responders family called and asked us to help yesterday.. an email from Tajikistan and Haiti say thank you for our support. The city of Yonkers calls us to help rehab a home..

A new day…a blessed Friday, our ribbon cutting 1030am at our headquarters…at 524 main street new Rochelle. A green resource center..started, an international prayer room, and lots of love and people coming through..

We have a new board being put up that you can get your name engraved on.

This week we got three more building permits…exciting…a historic week for us to help families get their homes completed, off the ground ad moving ahead.

Election DAY 2010..a debaucle of 3.5 billion dollars spent..not one foreclosed home save..not a job created..what could we have done with that money…how many homes built..how many lives changed..time to help us get back to basics with the HABITAT MISSION..now that we will be building homes, aggressively across the country and county, time to  make it unacceptable for substandard housing and homes here….we will change it..

Last nite at our volunteer orientation which occurs at 6pm..a photographer, a lawyer and son and a bicyclist join us..how do we help..where can we help.

What an honor it was for me to be able to speak to the Brothers with Class and ladies of dignity at Mt Vernon High school today..

No question…they brought me class …Respect Service Dignity, it states..they want to build…talking about homes, respect, looks, success and more..they vow to help us…we need you MV you are the best.. I am most honored to speak to all of you today!

 

Then we had the legal team of IBM out on our site, what a treat it was..helping to see the lawyers…buiding happily, transforming the neighborhood..we need team captains now..just you wait Big Blue, you will step up the plate, thanks to Jessica Lorden for doing it again and again…and to Courage and to Tom and all the gang..next week I speak to thte Executive team at IBM, what an honor, an honor if they step up…we need YOU BIG BLUE..ADOPT THE ORCHARD STREET NOW…

 

Last, in all I say and do, I give THANKS TO OUR LORD, TO GOD IN HEAVEN, FIRST… reading Crains today about the mortgage ctrisis, the Investment Banks dripping with money who helped undermine the very foundation of our society, the American Dream and home, it is time for ME TO STEP UP, WITH A VOICE, TO CHALLENGE WHAT HAS HAPPENED..and to change the obscene situation with Habitat..just wait and see.
